Monsters

This is the harshest leaf-bare that WindClan has ever seen. A young warrior, cold and desperate, fears for his life and those he loves. So this cat, known as Sandclaw, resorts to more extreme measures. There is no crow-food around since there is no prey. Half-crazed with hunger, he goes down to the lakeshore to dig up a recently-buried kit that had died of greencough. And he ate her.

Moons later, long after the Frosting, as that leaf-bare came to be called, Sandclaw could hardly suppress his desire to taste cat flesh again. Icepaw, the main protagonist, along with all of WindClan, discover several terribly mutilated bodies with bites taken out of them. What kind of a monster strangles cats to eat them? And why is there no animal scent? Each body found carries only the scent of WindClan.

How can you catch a monster that you cannot see or smell? No cat has ever seen the mystery murderer and lived to tell the tale. What happens when Icepaw is dragged into it when he sister his killed and half-eaten?

So, I imagine that prologue will be along the lines of the first paragraph here. It will be in Sandclaw's PoV as he stumbles to the lake, eats the kit, and gains a taste for cat flesh. The rest of the book would be in Icepaw's PoV, and maybe his sister's.
