At ten to eight, Ron and I went to leave the cosy Common Room to go to the cold dungeons. When we were climbing out of the portrait hole, Fred and George happened to be climbing in.
"Ooh, where are you two off to?"
"Going to find an empty classroom?"
"She's not my girlfriend!" Ron yelled after them as they went into the Common Room.
"Never said she was." Said George with a wink, closing the portrait behind him.
"Come on, let's go." Ron said sulkily.
We made our way to the dungeons but I couldn't help rekindle my crushed spirits. Why was I even upset? Ron just stated a fact - I'm not his girlfriend.
But don't you wish you were?
I ignored my thoughts.
"...hello? Y/N?" Ron waved a hand over your eyes. I was too busy worrying about my relationship with Ron to realise we were at the door of the dungeon.
"Huh?"
"I asked if you were ready?"
"Oh," I said, straightening my sweater. "Sure."
Ron smirked. He knocked on the door, and it opened by itself. We walked in wearily.
"Ah, Weasley, Y/L/N, you made it."
We stayed silent.
"For your detention tonight you shall be cleaning cauldrons and tubes and rods and other supplies that I asked my third years not to clean out, so that you two," Professor Snape glanced between us. "May clean up for them. Oh, and no magic. I hope this detention will teach you, Mr Weasley, to pay more attention in Potions class, and you, Miss Y/L/N, to not argue with authorities. Yes?"
"Yes, sir." We said, on command.
"Good," he said, in a condescending manner. "Now, I have a meeting with the Headmaster. I will return in an hour to review your progress. Should you get up to any nonsense, you will be in more trouble than you could ever believe." And with that, he left the classroom, slamming the door shut behind him.
Ron and I stood in the silence for a second before he spoke up.
"Should we... er... get started, then?" He asked.
"Yes." I said, and walked over to a cauldron and began cleaning it out with an old rag. Ron sat across from me and started wiping down stirring utensils.
I looked at Ron. I couldn't help but notice how he looked a lot more toned in the low light of the dungeon. His face was set in a deep concentration. The moonlight streaming through the window hit his skin in a way that made him seem like he was glowing.
He looked up and I quickly snapped out of my observations and focused a little too obviously on washing the cauldron. I looked back at Ron who was now grinning to himself as he polished up the spoons.
Could he possibly feel the same way about you?
No, you twat. You're his best friend, he doesn't like you. He quite literally shouted that at his brothers only a few minutes ago.
My thoughts argued, yet I couldn't deny the satisfied smirk that had flitted across Ron's face that made me feel something grow in my stomach.
We talked innocently about Quidditch and homework and then soon fell silent, working individually.
"Hey, are you bored? Want to do something else?" Ron said suddenly, smiling suspiciously.
"What?" I said, sitting up very straight, caught off guard. I cringed as I found myself thinking of certain possibilities...
