After a few weeks went by, Alise, couldn't really relax. She was still half expecting Diego to make a return to the bedroom to claim her again in some way, which meant she lay awake into the early hours of the morning, until she realised this was not going to be the case. Perhaps, on learning that she was carrying his child, it had put him off being intimate with her. Whatever the reason, she was happy to have her room back again for herself, and had one of the servants take away the rest of his clothes and belongings still in the room, to give to him.
Although, her bedroom was her sanctuary, it could not be said for the rest of the Villa, especially when Diego decided to hold one of his many debauch drunken celebrations under its roof, where he let his men go crazy, feasting drinking and entertaining local women of low standing in the area, into the early hours, from her room Alise could hear the music and shouting and laughing. Sometimes gunfire and the sound of horses' hooves intermingled with it, that left Alise turning and tossing in her bed unable to get to sleep, and doing her best to control her temper and not go down and confront Diego. She would not give him the pleasure of being the one who would go to him first and break the silent stand-off that was happening between them at the moment.
It left her a little dismayed that such goings on were happening in her home, and she wondered was this Diego's new way of rubbing her face in it, that he was determined to wipe out respectable reputation her father had built up, and stamp it with his own less gentlemanly one with this sort of carry on.
Her suspicions of his motives were more or less confirmed the following morning, after one of his raucous parties. Alise was coming out of her room when Diego appeared from her father's room, but he was not alone, his arms was wrapped around a younger blonde-haired floozy, whose revealing attire gave away exactly the kind of woman she was. Now, as Alise approached, he pressed her against the nearby wall, kissing her.
Alise just to continue walking by with her head held high in dignity, whilst ignoring them as if they were not there. But then, she heard him speak up a little gruffly, but loud enough for her to hear, "Ahh, Bonita, how I enjoyed last night with you, and this morning as well. It's been too long from I have had a chance be with a real woman, who knows how to please a man"
Bonita's response to this, was to titter in pleasure at such flattery, not even realising he only said it for Alise's benefit, which made Alise realise how stupid she was, that she didn't realise she was being used.
Alise meanwhile, let out a small snort of derision, before continuing down the stairs. Thinking if she thought his remark would be an insult or humiliate her, he would be sadly disappointed. For one thing, she didn't consider him a real man that she had ever felt the need to please him in anyway, so his little floozy was welcome to him.

And so, the weeks went on in the same manner, neither of them really acknowledging the other's existence if they could help it, neither one willing to break the impasse, seeming contented and determined to let things continue as they were.
And as it turned into months, Alise was discovering Marie and Padre Mendez's words had more or less come true. Despite her initial desire to not be carrying Diego's child, now as she felt the child moving around inside her, and felt like a little living thing that she was nurturing. She was more fascinated by the idea that she was going to going to give birth to a little person, now wondering what he, or she would look like, all thought of not wanting it had miraculously vanished
Perhaps, seeing Marie with her little one, had also helped in the transition of her feelings towards her own pregnancy. Now that her son Jose, was at the stage where he was starting to become more active and noting things around him, watching Marie's delight in her son's small progressions was contiguous, and now Alise could not wait to experience the whole thing for herself as well, when her own child was born.
Even though she was still apprehensive about the idea of actually giving birth, the pregnancy was also bringing out other strange emotions that she tried to ignore, and that was it had awoken some sensual desires in her, that sometimes, she found her mind wandering into territory she previously refused to acknowledge.
Sometimes she found herself recalling the feelings of Diego's hands and mouth that had explored her body with a certain intimacy, and sometimes she awoke turning in the bed as if she imagined he was lying next to her to find the space empty, and then finding a strange longing deep inside her that disturbed her peace of mind and left her trying to dismiss such feelings and any thought of Diego.
In the bright light of day, these betraying feelings that coursed through her body at night, only made her avoid him even more, a little alarmed that if she was around him, they would not so easily be dismissed.
Thankfully, lately he seemed to spend more time away from the ranch and the Villa, so it was easy for her to go about without running into him.
And so, she kept herself busy as she could around the Villa and ranch, ignoring Marie and Carlotta's advice, that now she was getting along further in her pregnancy, she should be taking it easy
But as she got bigger, much to her frustration, she found she had to slow down, because her body gave her no other choice in the matter, and allow Carlotta and Marie fuss over her. Used to being independent, and doing as she liked, this was not easy for her, and sometimes made her a little short-tempered with those around her. But they were all very indulgent with her, knowing the cause of her short temper, and Alise wasn't sure if this made her feel better or worse.
Now she just wanted the pregnancy to be over with, so she could get going back to doing what she wanted, including the freedom riding her horse again and being able to bend down and see her feet. She didn't like feeling tired all the time, and found herself once more cursing Diego inwardly for getting her pregnant in the first place, feeling that if he did come through the door she could happily lift the first thing that came to hand, and fling it at his head.
