Annie's pov
Running.
That's all I was doing my entire life. No one would catch me if I kept running. That's what I told myself, but I'm only human. Or part human. We have to rest, I was under a rock overhang out in the middle of the forest when it happened.
"-nie, Annie, Annie wake up. It's time to go home." The deep voice sent a shiver through my body as I recognized it. Austin. Austin Millions.
Austin was supposed to be a father in my life. After my real father died, Austin took me in and said he would take care of me. All I ever got from Austin was beatings.
I did the most sensible thing I could do. I ran. Or I tried to, an aching in my scalp pulled me back to reality. I screamed, I don't know how long or loud I screamed but when I was done my throat was raw.
Before Austin could drag me out of the forest and away from the rock overhang, I gripped the edge. The sharp edge biting into my fingers. Austin curses under his breath and pulls his foot back and kicks me in the stomach. My grip slips and I groan from the pain as I blindly reach for anything.
The man above me crouches and drives his fist into my body. One to my head, two to my chest and one to my ribs before a hiss causes him to stop.
Vampires aren't that rare in our world, they are the strongest out of the three main species. Vampires, werewolves, and humans.
Though the species will sometimes have one that falls in love with one from another species and produce a hybrid. I'm one of those hybrids. My dad was a human and I'm not a hundred percent sure about what my mom is. I didn't grow up around her.
A tall man with jet black hair and piercing blood red eyes glares at Austin, "Step away from the girl," the man's voice is what scares me.
Austin glares at me, "All this running just because you want to be a slut for a vampire! You really are a fucking whore!"
I cower away as Austin lifts his arm to hit me again, I squeeze my eyes shut and wait for the impact that is sure to come. Nothing happens.
I peek a blue eye open and see the tall man hovering over me. I notice that his skin is pale, he is shirtless and the sweat rolls down his back undisturbed. A gurgling sound reaches my ears and I try to look around the man but he turns to hide whatever is happening from me. After a few moments I hear a thud and he turns back to me, licking his lips.
I blush and look away, my eyes fall on the lifeless body of Austin and I back away from the vampire quickly. I stutter uncontrollably, "S-s-s-s-stay a-a-awa-a-ay pl-lea-as-s-ee."
The vampire's eyes darken as his tongue darts out catching the few drops of blood that escaped. He sighs, "It's okay I won't hurt you. I'm Aldrin Mordecai. I am part of the strongest vampire coven. I will not hurt you I was only trying to protect you. That man gave off the intentions of trying to kill you. What did you do that made him want to kill you so bad?"
I shuttered under his gaze, "He beat me daily and finally I snapped. I couldn't take it anymore so I ran and ran until I couldn't anymore. "
Aldrin nods slowly and reaches a hand out, "I'm sorry."
I was about to ask 'what for?' but my vision went black and I fainted.
