Annie's pov

Pain. Excruciating pain.

That's all I felt when I drifted back to consciousness. I turned over and felt something soft underneath me as well as a searing pain from my ribs once they fully make contact with the soft thing.

I croaked out in pain and slid one eye open and look around the room. Where am I? Did Austin find me? Am I back where I started? My thoughts drifted to the worse possibilities of what could have happened.

The events from yesterday came rushing back. The vampire with pale skin, jet black hair, and piercing smokey blue eyes. He said his name was Aldrin Mordecai. He also said he was from the strongest vampire covens. I hope I don't get him killed. Seeing as how vampire elders really despise us, humans, saying that we contaminate the world.

The door bursts open and Aldrin steps in with glowing red eyes, "Don't worry about me. The elders do despise humans...but I am not an elder. I realize I should have taken more care as of not frightening you away but it can't be helped."

I stare at Aldrin, shocked. Did he just read my mind?

Aldrin smiles sheepishly, "Sorry, sorry, I have the ability to listen to your thoughts," he scratches the back of his neck, "I can't control it."

His explanation makes sense so I nod and I turn onto my back and gasp as pain flares throughout my body. Aldrin hurries over and helps me, his eyes change back to their Smokey blue color, "Sorry, I thought you would have realized you were bruised pretty bad since that man kept hitting you."

Austin's face popped into my head as he said that. My eyes widen.

Aldrin's right eyebrow shot up in question as he stared at me, leaning in. He ruffles my hair and smiles, pulling back.

I look at him before a shaky smile pulls at my lips. His actions remind of what a human father or older sibling would do.

A banging on the door pulls us from our thoughts. The door bursts open and a younger version of Aldrin walks in. A hatred burning in his blue eyes, watching me. I try to make myself smaller under his gaze, forgetting about my bruised body. Pain races through my body, I yelp.  His eyes darken with even more hatred.

Aldrin grabs the boy's shirt collar, dragging my gaze to his clothes. I notice he is wearing a fancy white button down shirt and black slacks. His jet black hair is slicked back. Aldrin snarls at the boy, "Akron, I told you to wait. I have business to take care of."

The boy scoffs, "Sorry Ally, but I can hear you out there so what's the difference?" Akron glares at me harshly, before continuing, "Oh and Ally, you know Father doesn't take kindly to strangers. Especially human strangers. You will be lucky if I don't mention this to Mother and Father. "

"Akron, act your age! Seriously," Aldrin laughs, "I feel like I'm talking to an old man not my 14 year old brother."

"Does it talk?" Akron questions, paying his brother no mind.

Aldrin sighs, "Yes ANNIE talks, you little dim wit."

Akron rolls his eyes before setting them on me yet again, "Talk."

I shiver lightly at his command, "I don't know why you hate me so much.  I haven't even done anything to you. "

Akron snarls, "Just you being here puts my dear brother's life in jeopardy! Of course I'm mad at you!" He lets his cool demeanor drop to show he truly cares for his family.

Aldrin rolls his eyes, "Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie, don't feed the girl lies."

As casual as that sentence was Akron glares at his brother, "At least I am thankful for my family and care whether or not they get hurt!"
