So...we got let off the hook for the most part.
After sprinting to class, Jungkook and I were relieved to see that we'd only missed a small bit of theory. So, thankfully, Hagrid decided not to sanction us. We got some eyebrow raises though; some people jumped to false conclusions. But let's be real. A boy and a girl, turning up to class late, out of breath with knotty hair? That's pretty sus from an outsider perspective.
I feel good right now. Hagrid's free teaching nature radiates good energy around the garden. After the thrill of break-time, a calm lesson like this is nice. And, let's he honest, how could there possibly be a bad vibe when we're learning about literal magical animals? If that wasn't enough to fuel my spirit, I also have the cutest creature ever on my shoulder, Namjoon's puffskein. (It's licking my ear, and crawling around my should, but I've been told not to worry, it's just what puffskeins do.)
"..Ashlyn?" I hear a call to me from across the garden; a voice I recognise to be Jin's. "You and Jungkook gonna be done soon?" He shouts.
"Um..we won't be too long!" I call back with a smile.
"Good, the animals are getting quite impatient," Joon chimes in. Standing next to a very whiny baby Griffin, both Jin and Namjoon look ready to snap at any moment from the annoying noise. Better get this done before more creatures start getting cranky.Hagrid may have let's us off the hook in terms of detention, but we were given a tiresome task as compensation: cutting the food for all the animals. Yes. All of them.
I look down at the huge pile of meat on the table in front of me, all cut and ready to go. But then glance at Jungkook, who is only halfway through cutting his pile. Brushing his hair from his eyes, he looks at my finished pile with wide eyes, the concentration previously on his face wiped away entirely.
"You're finished?" He says with astonishment. I smile, and chuckle.
"Yeah. Don't feel bad about your pace, I'm just used to doing this kind of thing often." Despite my words, Jungkook still pouts and looks entirely dispirited. In reality, he isn't slow at all. I guess cooking for myself day-in-day-out just made me quick. You know, parents never being home, and that. I pick up my knife, and take a piece from his section.
"I'll help you get them done." I say. He huffs."Yeah, okay." He says with a small nod. I notice he still looks pretty downcast though, and doesn't look in any mood to continue cutting. Despite the short time I've known him, it feels odd to see him so unmotivated. So I look around for something to lighten his mood a little.
"This honestly isn't so bad, you know. Here, we can see Yoongi trying to keep his cool next to Buckbeak." I cock my head to the side, motioning to the woods a couple of metres away.
Across the flimsy gate, a very agitated Yoongi is holding the reigns the hippogriff, with clear discomfort written all over his face. In fact, he's trying to lean so far away with his torso, that he almost looks like an angle.
Instantly I see Jungkook's eyes brighten a little at my mention of Yoongi. Looking over, he laughs at his friend, and starts slicing again, with more enthusiasm.~
Slice, slice, slice.
The midday sun beats down on us as we continue to work on the food. Luckily, the advantages of having a tall, muscular yet not too strong, pretty fit-
but anyway, the advantages of that, is he is acting as a sunblock, so I can continue to work without being absolutely roasted. So, as we work through the pile together (fairly fast, I have to say), I honestly can't say it feels like a punishment."You know, Yoongi's never been comfortable around creatures." Jungkook says after a while.
"I would never bring it up to him, but sometimes I wonder if the Puffskein incident really was an accident, or a fear reflex." I hum in response.
"I would have imagined Yoongi to be more uncaring when it comes to things like this, if I'm honest," I say, putting down my knife. We're getting close to finishing, so I decide to let Jungkook do the rest. Plus, my arm is starting to ache.
