"I don't know what you are expecting to find, you know. You happened to be very vague." I merely watch from afar, as Namjoon continues to sift through books, his perseverance astounding me; I gave up helping fifteen minutes ago. An old clock is situated right above the study desk I've positioned myself at, making it incredibly easy to clock watch. Which is probably more of a negative than a positive, but it gives me something to focus on, other than the lengthy book in front of me, and the flickering of the candles. Which, as I've read, reflect the mood of the library. The more flickering, the worse study environment. I guess my boredom must be affecting the vibe. So I speak again.
"...my surname in a crusty Hogwarts record book isn't really a lead. The surname Rose isn't particularly uncommon." I tap the log entry, reading back my own surname in a very elaborate cursive. Namjoon clears his throat, and glances over at my hunched position with a grin. "You're a lot more talkative when you're bored, you know." He huffs. "And yes, maybe you're correct, and it's a coincidence, but... there is a question in my head that I think we both will want the answer to." So crypctic...and I'm so confused.
"Care to give me a hint as to what that question might be?" I stand up, and approach the shelf Namjoon browses in front of me. "Well, put it this way. Dumbledore went out of his way to help you, directly behind the back of your parents. I don't have to go through the legal problems there. On top of that, you get sorted into Slytherin, despite not seeming to have any connection to that kind of family branch. But your wand has a skull on it? Weird." He noticed that. As I send him a look, he nods again. "Yes, I did notice that. And there's actually one more point to make, but I don't know if it's worth the story." His face remains placid as he takes books out and puts books back, engrossed in searching. Making it clear I'm really going to have to get the answer manually. So I ask the obvious question. "What is the last thing? You might as well tell me the story, considering we're already looking," I say, gesturing to the library around us. The book in his current possession shuts with a snap.
"Fair point. I'll make it quick. The day you were sorted, as Prefect, I had to lead the new students through the halls after the ceremony like usual. I was nearing the path to the Ravenclaw dorms, close enough for me to simply need to explain where to go, leaving me alone as the students went onwards. And that was when Snape tapped me on the shoulder, despite his office being on the complete opposite side of the school. He simply said, 'you and your friends, take good care of that girl," and walked off, with his usual limp. Despite needing to put the least strain possible on his leg ever since his last encounter with Voldemort, he made the effort to come see me, simply to tell me to take care of you?" He narrowed his eyes in subtle thought. "Just thought that was pretty strange." I didn't know how to contribute anything to that, so I simply said "uh, yeah, that's weird."
"Why is my situation so odd?" I think aloud, while heading back over to my chair. "That's exactly the question I want to answer," Namjoon mutters. "Hey Namjoon?" I speak before I think, but I guess I didn't really think too hard about this question. It's been on my mind all through this weird adventure of a day. "Yeah Ash?" I spin on my heel, looking back towards him. He's a smart guy, so I'll get an honest answer. "Do you..think I'll be okay? Here? Like, I feel like I've been a bit hesitan-"
"Show us all what makes you you. You don't have to be anything more than you already are just because there's magic involved. You'll be fine, because every single person in this school is an oddity in some way. We've all got challenges. Plus, I'm not going anywhere. And neither is Jungkook, Taehyung, Yoongi, Jimin, Jin or Hoseok." Hell, it may have been the obvious, but hearing someone actually say those things was such a reassurance that I couldn't help walking back to him for a hug, which he reciprocated warmly. "Thank you." I simply state, after pulling out of the comfy embrace. "No problem," he replies, and turns back towards the extensive bookshelf. There's a much more relaxed feeling between the two of us than there was before.
"Oh, you can go now if you want, by the way. What I'll need is in the restricted section, which I'll need to sort out permission for before I can go" I raise my brow slightly, "and when did you come to that conclusion?" He breaks into a childish grin. "Fifteen minutes ago when you stopped helping." My jaw drops, and I pick up the crusty-ass logbook, and throw it towards my companion. He bursts out in laughter at my reaction, and I try not to smile and keep up my facade. "You could have let me know!" I exclaim lightly shoving him. "I didn't tell you, because I was quite enjoying our little conversations. It was nice. But now I have to pick up something from Madame Pomfrey, so we should get going. You go ahead, I'll pack up." I tilt my head slightly, wanting to do my bit to help. "I can pack up too, you know. We can keep talking nonsense," I finish with a smile, but he shakes his head.
"Don't worry about it. Now get going, the others will be in the outside square by the pendulum until we're told to go to our common rooms. We passed it on our way?" Thankfully, I'm pretty sure I know where that is.
"Yeah, I can manage that. I'll see you later?" He smiles, and shakes his head again.
"Most likely tomorrow, I think," he states, so I say my goodbyes, and try to plan out my route as I exit the library, with a newfound reassurance and comfort. Maybe this search wasn't a waste of time, after all...

As soon as Namjoon hears the closing of the door, a serious expression drops upon his previously light features. The way in which the candles on the walls waver on the left had revealed the familiar form of someone to Namjoon, towards the back of a row a few lines away from his current position. He was sure Ashlyn didn't notice them, but then again, the person wasn't exactly easy to notice. But over time, you come to know when someone you dislike is around you. A darker look than his own met Namjoon as he found the eyes of the boy through the shelves. Not even the curls of hair on his forehead could obscure that strong gaze.
"Why are you acting so discreet? Its not like I haven't already seen you, Carson." That soft tone from merely a minute ago had completely been replaced by a low gravel. With no other option, Carson lengthened his posture from it's previous hunch, and slowly strolled over, book in hand, opened on a page as if he had just been reading. "Bold of you to assume I'm here for any reason that has anything to do with you, Namjoon." His eyebrows raise, an accusatory expression on his face, but eyes lit with a flame that never seems to waver, unlike the candles of the room, that cast wild shadows on Namjoon. "Bold of you to assume I'm that dumb," Namjoon says, "so what do you know?" Carson smiles. "What could, I of all people, possibly know about a mudblood?"
"Why did you assume I was talking about Ashlyn? Unless, of course, you happen to have been listening in?" Carson scoffs, and smiles."Not exactly like you were quiet. It was quite cute of you to lie to her like that, like it'll be easy for her to get the hang of all this. Got a thing for the newbie?" Namjoon laughed, and rocked back on his heels. "It's quite cute of you to assume that being nice needs an ulterior motive, got a thing for manipulation?" Hands rush to cloaks, wands rush to hands. "Don't even try it," Namjoon softly says, wand aimed straight at Carson's forehead, whereas Carson merely raised his chest level within the rush. A slow exhale leaves the lips of Carson, as he lowers his arm, and starts to walk towards the door.
"Let's have a good year of school, goody two shoes."
