Alicia woke up with her face cuddled into Clarke's chest and her arm wrapped around her toned stomach. She stretched her stiff body out slightly and moved up on the bed, rubbing her sleepy eyes. She glanced around the room, her eyes finally landing on Clarke. Clarke was led on her back with her mouth wide open, snoring quietly. Alicia couldn't bring herself to wake her, so she slipped out of the bed and blew out any of the candles that were still lit. It's a shame we didn't have more candles. Alicia thought to herself, finally having blown out the last candle.
Popeye, who had no issue waking Clarke up, ran over to her and jumped on her stomach. Clarke groaned and lightly nudged Popeye off her. She grabbed the covered and pulled them over her head, groaning again. Alicia guessed that Clarke wasn't a morning person.
"You sound happy this morning." Alicia teased and Clarke slowly pulled the covered down. She peeped out at Alicia and smiled, Alicia smiled back.
"I'm happy now." Clarke said accidentally, suddenly feeling embarrassed that she had said it out loud. Alicia blushes, skillfully hiding her burning cheeks and rolled her green eyes.
"Good, because we have another life threatening day ahead of us." Alicia replied causally, genuinely meaning it.
"When don't we?" Clarke rhetorically asked. She slid out of her bed and picked up Popeye, who in the last week had grown a hefty amount. He was still small, but nowhere near as small and skinny as when Clarke found him.
Alicia and Clarke spent the morning packing minimal supplies, hiding their car and the supplies staying behind, as well as planning what they would do when they got to the mall. They only really needed fuel and had to get to the gas station next to the mall. Meaning they were not planning to enter the mall at all, which was definitely a good idea, as the mall was most likely filled with walkers.
"Are you sure your leg can handle this? It's a long walk, Clarke." Alicia asked worriedly, remembering how far away it looked on the map. Of course the house didn't show up on the map, however Alicia knew where they were. She also knew how dangerous going near a extremely public place like a mall was, but they needed the fuel. Alicia had been to malls before, never inside unless she knew they were safe, but she had never been to this one. However, she knew about it and hoped that there was still some fuel around. Chances were that it had already been taken and they would have to continue their journey on foot, which wouldn't only slow them down, it would be a lot more dangerous.
Alicia slipped a hand around Clarke, helping her walk through the twisted roots of the forest floor. Popeye followed them silently, having learnt not to stray too far from them.
"If I couldn't handle the journey, I wouldn't have come." Clarke stated, knowing that Alicia helping her walk would only slow them down, even if it hurt Clarke a lot less than walking without her.
"Yes you would have, just let me help you." Alicia replied, keeping her arm securely around Clarke. Alicia's look told Clarke not to argue and the blonde fell silent, watching the puppy run in front of them. Eventually, Clarke slipped out of Alicia's grip and walked by herself, masking the continuous pain that spread through her leg.
Alicia argued, shrugging her backpack further onto her shoulder, but Clarke won. Clarke adjusted her bag as well, hearing the rustle of water bottles and treats for Popeye. She hoped she had remembered to put in the med kit, remembering that it was the only item in the bag that would help them in a struggle. Alicia offered to take Clarke's bag countless times, but Clarke once again refused the offer. She had never really liked accepting help from anyone, even when she was usually the first one to offer it if someone else was in need.
