"Well, what do you want with my Fort, Marcus?" I ask cockily. "Your Fort? That's cute. See--" He starts. "Yeah, MY Fort. You see anyone else here in charge? I took this place back and I made it mine." I cut in. "Look son, this place is government property, OUR government property. Now I'm only gonna ask you nicely once, I need you up and out of here in the next 6 hours. I think that's pretty fair. You think that sounds fair, BK?" He turns to the large caucasion man. "Sounds pretty fuckin' fair to me, General." He answers. "Why should I?" I inquire. "Because I could wipe every last one of you out right now." He picks up a rock and tosses it straight up in the air. "Turner!" He shouts. A gunshot goes off and the rock is shot out of the air. The general smiles. "That wasn't me, sir!" I can hear Turner yell out. Now I'm smiling. "That's Andrea, and I'm only gonna say THIS once. I'd like you to leave, General." I tell him. "Andrea huh?" He sounds impressed. "6 hours." He says as he backs away, calling his troop off.
Daryl, Glenn, and I re-enter the main post where the rest of the group is waiting, except Andrea who hasn't returned from her perch yet. "Who was it? What did they want?" Lori asks concerned. "Some guy, claims to be an army general. He very well might be, but that don't mean shit any more. He wants us out of Fort Benning. Says we have 6 hours to gather our belongings and leave." I explain. "To hell with that." Andrea says as she enters the room. "My thoughts exactly. By the way, brilliant shooting sunshine. That really turned the tables on him." I wink at Andrea. "If we're not leaving, what's the plan then?" Dale wonders. "Well that's pretty simple, we fight for what's ours, and if things go bad, we need an escape plan. We don't have much time so let's get started. Everyone gather all your weapons and ammo and bring it here. We need to see what we have. Once we know that, we can get a plan together. Everyone back here in 30 minutes, no exceptions." I order.
Once all the weapons and ammo are pooled together, I start to distribute them to the group. We have 15 handguns, 8 shotguns, 4 rifles, an assault rifle, Daryl's crossbow, and Belle's Machete. I give Glock 17's to Dale, Glenn, Carol, Lori, and Sophia, keeping one for myself. I give Daryl and Beth each a Browning BDA, Andrea gets her Lady Smith, Carl gets his fathers .357 Colt Python, and I give Belle a 586 model Smith & Wesson to take care of the handguns. I give Andrea a Safari Browning Automatic and Dale a Remington 700 VLS to take care of the rifles. I hand Glenn a Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Compact and take a Mossberg 590 for myself, to take care of the shotguns. Then I give Daryl his Horton Scout crossbow, and Belle her Condor Kukri Machete. I also decide that Daryl should take the M4A1 assault rifle so he can save his arrows for the geeks. We each have about 20 rounds of ammo aside from Daryl who has about 150 shots for our lone assault rifle. We put the left over weapons in the sheriff's bag we still have from the department.
"Alright. The plan is simple. We're gonna let them enter the walls, give them the impression that we've left. Me, Daryl, and Glenn will be the front line by the main post. Dale will post up in the tower and Andrea will post up in the trees, outside of the wall with the hole in it. Everyone else will be behind the main post. If things go sideways we need to get to that hole in the wall and get out. T-Dog's van is still there so that would be our get away vehicle if we need it. I've put the rest of our canned food in the bag with the guns. I'm leaving it with Andrea since she'll already be outside of the Fort, in case things go wrong. Take no prisioners, and shoot to kill. Any questions?" Nobody says anything. "Good. We have about 5 hours before they're supposed to come back, so everyone go pack up anything you may need in case we have to hit the road." I instruct the group.
I go back to my sleeping quarters with Lori to pack up what little clothing, accessories, and food we have. "I don't think I can do this." Lori admits. "You can't be thinking like that. You have to KNOW you CAN do this, suppress your doubts." I tell her. "I can't stop thinking about Carl, our baby..." She starts sobbing. "Good. Think about them. Thinking about them gives you a reason to fight. It gives ME a reason to fight. We need this place to protect them. To protect all of us. If we lose this Fort, I don't know what our future holds." I explain. Lori nods her head, and wipes her tears away. "You're right, I'm sorry. I'll try to be stronger." She assures me before giving me a loving kiss and heading for the door. "Lor." I call for her. "Everything's going to be okay. I'll never let anything happen to you, you know that." I promise her. "I know." She nods, before exiting the room.
I take this time to go and help Andrea get herself and her equipment in the tree perch. "You alright with this?" I ask her. "Do I have a choice? If they want a fight, then they've got one, as far as I'm concerned." She answers. "Good." I mutter. "Aww were you worried about me?" She jokes. "No. You're one of the few I don't have to worry about. Just stay alert up there. I need to know you have us covered." I urge. "You know I do. It's just--" She begins, before the familiar sound of gunfire cuts her off. "What the hell was that?" I blurt out. "Are they already here?" Andrea inquires. Could they be? We still had about 45 minutes before the deadline would've been reached. These sons of bitches must've ambushed us. Lori. "Lori!" I yell as I rush back in through the hole in the wall. "Shane wait! Shit." Andrea says, before reluctantly following me back inside the fort. Looks like this party is starting early.
