If you took one glance at me you probably think that I was an ordinary seventeen year old girl just trying to make it within the walls that protected us from a very deadly threat. That is if you saw me on a rare day I wasn't needed in the Survey Corps and I don't blame you there because I can easily hide the trauma and the scars that have been building up for almost ten years now. Yes people know who I am but they don't know the full story of what has happened in my life.
For those who don't me, my name is Gemini Smith and yes I am the daughter of Commander Erwin Smith himself. You're probably wondering what kind of shit show my life has been to give any sort of trauma. Well when you witness one of your parents get slaughtered right in front of your eyes at a young age it's something you don't really forget.
When my father learned about what happened, well he was forced to accept that he had to raise me full time instead of when he was inside the walls. At the time he only had what Nile had told him when he arrived at the scene. After about two weeks I finally opened up to not only my father but Hange and Levi as well since I saw them as family. Hell I still remember that night very clearly in my mind and I don't wish what happened to me upon anyone else.
Ten Years Ago.....
It had been about three months after my seventh birthday and it was a typical day for me and my mother. She was sitting in her chair fingers nimbly working on some knitting that she sold in her free time. I on the other hand was quietly reading one of the books my father got me while I was with him.
"Gemini darling you doing okay over there." My mother's sweet voice breaking the trance like state I was in.
"Yes mom. I was getting lost again in the story like usual." I spoke feeling the corners of lips curl up.
"Always getting lost in those stories your father gives you."
"Can you blame me. Adventures in far away lands always seeming hopeless but turns out alright." I felt the gentle page between my fingers before placing my bookmark.
"You definitely take after your father with that adventurous spirit of yours." Indicated my mother as she gently shook her head.
I opened my mouth to make a smart remark but before any words left there was loud banging and crashes coming from the kitchen.
"You sure this is the right place because it sure doesn't look like it has much value in it." Shouted a distant male voice.
My eyes were instantly fixed upon my mother as my body began to tremble. Without hesitation my mother gently took me by my hand and lead me to the closest. She pressed a finger against her lips singling for me to remain as quiet as possible.
Taking a deep breath before uttering, "Whatever you hear Gemini do not make a sound, I don't want you getting harmed. If I don't get you out of here baby wait until you are sure the intruders are out before making your way to a friend okay."
I felt my head shake in agreement hoping for the best case scenario in this situation. Before I knew it I was surrounded in darkness with the last time I saw my mother's smiling face in my life.
A few moments after the door shut I heard muffled shouting but since I was so scared I couldn't distinguish any of it. As the shouting continued I felt my body trembling hoping nothing was going to happen out there but I was so wrong. Before long I heard a scream pierce the air as a shot ring out behind the door that separated me from her.
I don't know how long I was remained in the closet but I faintly remember whoever enter the house rummage around before leaving shortly after the shot. Finally with a shaky breath I felt my fingers curl around the door handle and I noticed that night had fallen. My eyes slowly adapted to the low light, I noticed my mother lying on the floor but I moved towards the coach not sure what to do. Once there I curled up into a ball and fell into a deep sleep.
When morning arrived I awoke to one thing that I didn't want to happen. There laying on the floor like the night before but now fully lite was my mother lying in her own blood.
Back to the present day...
I sat on that sofa not moving until Nile came to get me. I pretty much was ghost stuck in my body there but not fully aware of everything. At the time I didn't realize the people who entered the house and killed my mother were after something but of course they didn't find it. The funny thing is those people were never caught still to this day and you would think that some of our neighbors would be able to give some info to find them.Whatever they were after, I hope someone was able to put them in their place but the thing I don't know is that what they were after was actually in that house just in the one place they didn't look a closet with a little girl wearing said item.
