(On Hold) Freedom's Wings

56th Expedition

(Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I just needed some time to straighten somethings up for this chapter. I will keep writing but updates might be slow.)

It's been about three weeks since the training and the incident with the Training Corps. We didn't really talk about the incident since we were going between training and an expedition to prepare for. In a way I was thankful nothing got brought up about the incident because I didn't want to go into details.

I was sitting on one of the stone dips on one of the towers of the base staring out over the grounds. While I was lost in thought, I didn't notice my father and Levi come up.

"Lost in thought again Gemmi." My father's voice cut through my thoughts.

"Sorry if my disappearances and thoughts have been any issue these past few days." I sighed as I turned my gaze towards them.

"Sometimes I wonder if we let you join the Survey Corps to early." Informed Levi coming to lean against the high stone at my back.

My father sighed not wanting to get into that conversation as he walked over to the stone at my feet. I gave my father a gentle smile knowing he did have some regrets in allowing me to join. We let the silence go on for a little bit enjoying the calm that washed over us.

"Gemini with the expedition tomorrow I don't want you going off by yourself." My father finally stated breaking the silence.

"Is this a precaution with the whole incident a few weeks ago?" I inquired bringing my knees to my chest.

"Gemini all the squad leaders agree it is in the best interests to keep you safe. Especially since everyone here sees you as family of some sort." Informed my father staring at me.

I glanced back at Levi to see his stoic expression before groaning.

"I guess there is no room for debating that order."

My father shook his head before heading back inside to do some paperwork. A few minutes after he disappeared Levi moved to sit at my feet. I gave him a questioning look before returning to staring at the grounds.

"You know we are just trying our best to keep you save Gemini." Levi remarked.

"I know but sometimes you guys are just a little overbearing. Especially a few days to weeks after an attack." I stated meeting Levi's gaze.

He chuckled knowing I had a point with that statement. I smiled knowing we could communicate even without say a word.

"So Captain Short Shit you think we have a chance to make headway tomorrow." I stated clearing the air.

"If everything works out there, there is a good chance Little Miss Bombshell. Now you enjoy the rest of your day because tomorrow is the start of another hell trip." Informed Levi before getting up and heading off.

I just smiled and stretched my legs back out on the stone. After a few minutes I got up and stretched trying to get some feeling back into my right arm and hand. Before I headed back inside, I took one last look towards the Trost Distract still not being able to shake the feeling something was going to happen there in a the next few days.

The next morning....

I just finished saddling up my horse with Petra and Miche when we heard someone clear their throat. We turned to see my father standing there with his horse. Quickly we fell into salute, my father nodded before dismissing Petra.

"Gemini if you haven't figured it out by now you will be with Miche's squad for the expedition." Erin stated looking between us.

"I figured it was either Miche's squad or Levi's squad for the expedition." I stated as I mounted my horse.

In turn Miche and my father followed my lead not having much to discuss since everyone knew the plan. I followed their lead as we fell into formation to head to the Trost Distract. Once everyone had fallen into formation, my father turned to gaze at us before meeting my gaze. I nodded knowing what the possible risk was of this mission.

After the short ride to the Trost Distract, we were welcome through the Distract by crowds lining the streets. I waved and smiled knowing that some of these people had family riding among us that may not come back. Shaking it off that fact, I scanned the crowd curious to see if any of the training corps were present. I didn't notice anyone that is until we got closer to the outer gate of Trost Distract, I saw Eren, Armin, Mikasa standing together. I waved to them and noticed Armin nod towards the gate so I shifted my gaze to see Reiner standing amongst the crowd. Smiling I waved to him which he smiled in return and saluted me causing me to shake my head.

Shortly after that I felt someone nudge me. Glancing off to my left, I saw Hange smiling at me and nodding towards Reiner. I glared at her which made her straighten up quickly before we finally reached the gate. As the gate was rising I took a deep breath trying to calm the uneasiness that settled within me. I took one last look at the crowd hoping it was just a bad feeling and not my usual gut feeling of danger.

Before I could worry about it anymore, we were galloping into titan territory. My gaze fell upon Miche as we got into formation.

A few hours later.......

I felt solid ground underneath the balls of my feet as I glanced over at the latest kill. It was an abnormal that broke formation but with luck it didn't get to far into the ranks. I slowly caught my breath as I stood up from the crouch that I landed in. As I continued to regulate my breathing, I heard someone approaching on horse from behind my. I glanced over to see Miche coming with my horse in tow.

"Are you okay Gemini?" Inquired Miche as he came closer.

"Other than trying to catch my breath, I'm fine." I panted as I took the reins from him.

As I mounted my horse, I noticed a yellow flare coming from the front. I turned to Miche and we nodded in agreement as we raced to get back to our squad. Once we were back in our squad, we were informed that the Trost Distract was under attack.

'Shit! Out of all the Distracts that had to be attacked it had to be the one the south training regiment had watch over until their graduation in a few days.' I thought as we continued to get into a group.

As the remaining Survey Corps gathered, my main focus was trying to remain calm and not worry about the people I met in the training regiment. I got lost in thought of possible scenarios of what could happen to them. Nothing that was being said was registering with me until someone snapped right next to me. Glancing over I saw Levi right next to me.

"What is it Levi?" I inquired surprised by his sudden appearance.

"Commander wants us to go on ahead and try to get to Trost before there are to many casualties." Informed Levi.

I nodded in understanding as we broke ahead of the group. If we kept at top speed, I knew we would get back to the Trost Distract in about two hours. That is if we didn't run into any trouble with any titans along the way. As we continued on towards Trost, there was one thought that clouded my mind.

'Please let everyone be safe and sound.'
