The sun was just peeking over the horizon as I was finishing the last little bit of packing for the trip to survey the 104th cadet corps. As I was placing Reiner's jacket into my saddle pouch, I heard approaching feet and hoof fall against the cobblestone. Glancing over my shoulder I saw my father and Levi coming over with their horses in tow.
"Just the three of us I'm taking it for this trip." I ask as I placed my foot in the foot hold closes to me.
"Hange would be coming if we hadn't captured her two newest play toys." Sneered Levi following my lead of mounting our horses.
"Even though it's just the three of us going doesn't mean it's going to be easy for us with this training corps." Remarked my father heading for the gate.
"Also Gemini these cadets are close to your age so I don't expect you to go easy on them. Do I make myself clear?" Glanced my father over his shoulder towards me.
"Since when did I ever go easy on anyone near my age. " I stated guiding my horse to fall into stride towards the gate.
Levi opened his mouth but before a sound even left I shot his one of signature glares shutting him up. Once we were past the gate, we fell into our usual three point formation as we headed towards the southern division training corps location. The scenery passed in a blur as we made our way to the southern training grounds.
Half an hour ride later......
As we were dismounting from our horses, shouting was the first thing that greeted our ears.
"Commander Shadis never lets up does he." I cracked handed my reins off to one of the subcommanders.
"Gemini!" My father remarked giving me a side glare.
I put my hands up in defense as we followed the shouts. All the while, Levi silently chuckled knowing I did have a point.
"Shit! I have to go grab something. I'll meet you by the cadets." I stated running off before they could say a word.
I got to the stables and tracked down my horse. Quickly I dug around my side pouch before feeling the fabric of what I was looking for. I pulled out the training corps jacket glad it didn't fall to the bottom from the ride.Turning around I set a steady pace hearing the shouts grow louder as I got closer.
Meanwhile..
"Cadet Braun you're sticking out like a sore thumb." Commander Shadis glared at Reiner.
"Sir for the last time I haven't found it yet." Reiner stated trying to remain calm.
Footsteps could be heard approaching the lines. Glancing off to the side, Reiner noticed two men with Survey Corps emblem on their jackets.
"Aww Commander Smith and Captain Levi come to inspect new bait." Commander Shadis turned towards the pair.
"Those who join the Survey Corps Commander Shadis do it with their freedom of choice." Insisted Erwin scanning the cadets.
"Well ain't that a sight to see a cadet without a jacket." Smirked Levi noticing Reiner not wearing his.
"He claims he lost it while in town the other day while having a day off." Shadis glared back at Reiner.
"Maybe if you treated them a little bit better maybe they wouldn't be losing shit. Commander Shadis, sir." Panted Gemini finally catching up.
Reiner perked up hearing the familiar female voice ring out among the cadets. Armin, Eren, Bertolt, and his eyes darted towards the owner to see none other then Gemini standing on Commander Smith's left side holding something all to familiar in her hands.
"Next time keep better track of your belongings cadet." Smirked Gemini as she tossed Reiner his jacket once she was close enough.
"Sorry ma'am. I will do my best." Reiner remarked as he caught it and pulled it on before falling into salute.
"Hopefully your ability to kill titans will be better than your ability to keep track of things." Gemini turned and returned to her father's side.
The first half of the day seemed to drag after the whole jacket ordeal was settled. The three of us kept track of cadets that seemed to have potential for the scouts.
"Alright cadets half hour for lunch then you're being turned over to the Scout Regiment for whatever they have planned." Retorted Commander Shadis when the lunch bell rang.
With that the cadets dispersed and began heading to the mess hall.
"Holy shit! I wasn't expecting to see Gemini that soon guys." Retorted Eren when he was in earshot of Reiner, Bertolt, and Armin.
"Same." Rang the three as the group headed to get their lunch.
As they stood in line, they chatted about what could possibly happen that afternoon. Soon they heard footsteps approaching so they turned to see Mikasa, Ymir, and Krista coming towards them.
"So you boys know the girl that's in the Survey Corps?" Inquired Mikasa eying them.
"And if we do why does it matter." Reiner crossed his arms not wanting to let much out.
"Oh come on Reiner don't be so brutal now. Especially since I noticed you staring at her every once and a while." Pointed out Ymir.
"If they don't want to tell-" Krista started.
"We had some trouble with a few members of the Garrison regiment and she stepped in that's all." Explained Reiner hoping that was enough to get them off their backs.
It was and the group fell into more casual conversation as they got their meal and sat down.
Elsewhere...
"For the last time I don't want to talk about it Levi so get off my case about it."
"Alright little miss bombshell you don't need to go biting my head off." Levi put his hands up surrendering.
"Oh if I'm going to do anything if you bring that topic up again I'm going to be giving you a few new scars." I remarked glaring at him.
Levi opened his mouth to remark but the approaching footfall made us fall into salute before anything could be uttered. My father glanced between the two of us before motioning to stand at ease.
"Whatever you two were discussing doesn't get brought up again. Now the plan for this afternoon is to see how well the cadets can actually use the skills they acquired." Explained Erwin moving past us towards the small platform in the open.
"So our messed up version of cat and mouse." Levi stated as we fell into step behind Erwin.
"Pretty much because they need to realize that the hunted can become the hunter." Spoke Erwin before the bell rang signifying the end of lunch.
The last thing that crossed my mind before the mess started was, 'These cadets are in for a big surprise.'
