-----THIRD PERSON P.O.V  -----

"Evangeline!" The dying grandfather called out in a quiet voice. Soundlessly  the girl appeared.

"Remember our deal little one, for I am passing on. Your father will be the emperor, and you will be the heir. I can no longer be there for you." He said to her.

"I will remember grandfather." She whispered to him.

"I know, little one." He said on his final breath. "I love you." And then the great king closed his eyes; never to open them again.

EVANGELINE'S  P.O.V.

I open my eyes and wipe the tears from my face. Why has grandfather's death been haunting my dreams lately? I put on a tunic over my combat trousers. I throw my red hair in a ponytail and wash my face with the freezing water from my basin.

In the armory, I grab my sword, Telmar, and my bow and arrows. I belt Telmar around my waist and swing my quiver over my shoulder, then I whistle for Gallagher, my shape - shifter. He appears to me in his horse form.

I pull myself into the saddle and nudge him gently with my foot. Gallagher takes off towards the river. When we get there, I hop off Gallagher and into the middle of a clearing.

Vaughn, the oldest tree on the island, bows to me and explains my challenge. I grip Telmar's hilt tightly as two fully armoured bears emerge, my first task.

I unsheath Telmar and feel energy coursing through me, courtesy of the fact that Telmar was made in the very core of the world. I smile as I notice the bears' stances. Their feet are spread wider than their shoulders, and hold the overconfidence of fools.

I take them both down in a matter of seconds. They groan from the ground and retreat behind Vaughn.

Five minitaurs make their way to me. I sheath Telmar and just stand there. The beasts are terrified, I can see it in their eyes. I simply say "Boo!" And they retreat behind Vaughn.

My final task is to battle an unknown foe. I sigh as a river serpent raises it's head out of the water. I loose an arrow in its direction and it disappears.

"Well done child." Vaughn says. I swing up onto Gallagher.
