Bokuto was late to school.

He wasn't typically early, per se, but it was rare that he was late. On a good day, he would leave at 7:30, giving him thirty minutes to get to school- which starts at 8:00. Today, he left at 8:04, meaning he was more than "running late". He would be lucky if he was allowed into first period; but since his mother refused to let him stay home for the day, he had to try.

He took his usual route, treading not-so-hurriedly to school.

He passed a house, one that he passes every morning, and slowed to look at it. Not the house, but rather the flowers and other plants decorating its plain exterior. He had never seen the owner of the house, the person behind the thriving vegetation, before, but today, a boy around his age stood outside with a watering can, traipsing around the yard to each potted plant.

He seemed to have noticed Bokuto, because he stopped what he was doing and looked to him, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion and concern.

Bokuto, embarrassed by his obvious staring, spoke up first. "Did you plant those?"

The boy nodded, continuing along cautiously. Bokuto seemed to have frightened him, as if he was a small animal and Bokuto was a rambunctious child trying to catch him.

"They're nice."

With hesitation, the brunette replied, "Thank you."

The gardener had expected Bokuto to leave at that moment. He hoped Bokuto would leave at that moment. But Bokuto, unable to notice his discomfitedness, stayed.

"My mom has a garden. It's not as pretty as yours, though. She grows, like... vegetables and stuff, ya know? But I don't think I could do it. It takes too long. I'd get bored too fast."

Bokuto and his new "friend" met eyes briefly, the latter looking away in discomfort. He chuckled awkwardly and moved along on watering his plants.

"Oh- I have to go! I'm late for school!"

The boy ran off, finally going to school.

They didn't meet until Bokuto was late again.

He was in less of a hurry, taking his time to get there so that he may see the boy with the flowers again.

Like last time, he was there, tending to his scattered garden, but this time he was moving potted plants rather than watering them.

"Hey," Bokuto greeted him, a grin painting his face while a subtly glower look adorned the face of the other.

"Hey."

"I didn't get your name the first time. I'm Bokuto!"

"My name is Akaashi."

Bokutos grin widened, revealing his wire-embellished teeth. "That's a nice name."

"Ours are kind of similar, right? How they're both like the names of owls," Akaashi pondered, carefully placing a plant on the ground

"Are they? I didn't know that," Bokuto responded. "Well, I knew about mine, obviously. But I don't know many owl species."

The brunette smiled a bit in amusement, glancing back at the taller boy. "Shouldn't you be going to school?"

"Oh!" Bokuto exclaimed, realizing he had forgotten why he left his house despite only stopping for a few minutes. "I gotta go! Bye, Akaashi!"

With that, Bokuto ran off on his way to school, looking forward to meeting the boy with flowers again.
