We don't say much as we walk back. When we arrive, I gesture to my car.
Me: "Well, this is my car. Did you drive yourself?"
Dylan: "Yeah my car's over there."
Me: "Ok. So I guess..." I don't know where I was going with that. I pretend to be distracted by the sunset. It's breathtaking. Dylan gazes at it too.
Dylan: "It's almost as beautiful as you."
I can't hold back the smile tugging at my lips. I take my eyes off the sunset to look at Dylan. He's already looking at me. I can't resist the temptation. I rise onto my tiptoes and place a gentle kiss on his cheek. We stand there, gazing into each other's eyes, until my phone starts vibrating in my pocket. I smile sheepishly and take it out. It's a text from my mom saying "ok". The text reminds me that I told her I'd be home soon.
Me: "Um, it's my mom. I told her I'd be home soon. I should get going."
Dylan: "Yeah. Um I'll see you...sometime?"
Me: "Totally, um do you...I could...can I, um, put my number in your phone?" Dylan: "Yeah that'd be great! Go ahead"
He takes out his phone and hands it to me. I save my number and give it back to him.
Me: "So I guess I'll talk to you later?"
Dylan: "Yep." He smiles at me one last time before walking over to his car. He opens the door, calls out "Bye", then gets in. I wave back and get in my own car.
