I'm exhausted the next morning. I don't usually stay up that late. At school when I finish my lunch, I get up to dump my tray. I start walking to the trash can when I hear someone say my name. I turn towards the voice. It's Skye, a girl in my grade. She's had a crush on me since 2nd grade. She has red hair that goes to her shoulders. She's nice, it's just that we don't really have anything in common. She's really into sports and would never pick up a book in her life. I'm practically the exact opposite. There are only like 2 sports that I can tolerate playing and I love reading.
Skye: "Hey Dylan"
Me: "Hey Skye"
Skye: "So, um, have you been to any volleyball games yet? You know I play right?"
Me: "Yeah I know. And no, I haven't been to any. I'm pretty busy, you know, school, reading, stuff like that."
*And I kind of hate sports* I think to myself.
Skye: "You're so smart, reading books all the time."
Me: "Um thanks..."
Skye: "So I, um, wanted to ask you something. Would you wanna like go to a football game with me tonight? I know it's kind of late notice it's just that I have 2 tickets to the game. And we could eat out before the game if you want."
Her question surprises me. She's liked me for years but she's never asked me out. She finally got the guts. Suddenly I feel sorry for her. What kind of jerk would I be to turn her down? But what about Briella? I don't know what to do. Skye's waiting for my answer.
Me: "Sure."
Skye: "Really?! She sounds as surprised that I said yes as I am.
Me: "Um, yeah."
We set up the details and I go on with the rest of the school day.
