Delia:

I couldn't believe I was finally at Hogwarts. I had been dreaming of this moment for years now and had no idea what to expect.

I had just transferred to Hogwarts from a muggle school. My father had wanted to try to keep me away from the wizarding world, and secretly hoped that I would never discover my powers.

But a few years ago I found a strange old book of my father's in a locked trunk that I broke into in his office and read a verse from it, and suddenly the book started to levitate out of my hands.

I screamed and my father came rushing in. I guess then he realized that he finally had to tell me everything.

He told me about magic. And he told me how my mother really died. She had died shortly after I was born, I never knew her other than pictures and stories my father would tell me.

He always told me she had died in a car accident. But he finally told me the truth - that she had been hexed by a Death Eater to crash her car on purpose - that she was murdered.

He told me everything. That he had fought with a group of wizards against this evil wizard named Voldemort and his cronies, the Death Eaters. He had tried to protect my mother but they found her and killed her to torture my father. She didn't have magical powers.

He said after that he wanted to raise me in a normal life, hoping to keep me safe.

He told me he still had some connections to wizards though and he had heard whispers that Voldemort was returning. So he decided to start teaching me magic after school and on weekends, he hoped I would never have to use it though, merely for protection.

He told me about Hogwarts, so many stories about his times there. He was in Hufflepuff house, known for their loyalty, kindness, and fairness. That sounded like my dad, and he had raised me to be that way too.

However, deep down a part of me was still hurting, wanting vengeance, wanting power, wanting to hurt whoever had taken my mother away from me and my father, before I ever got the chance to know her.

A couple weeks ago I had received a letter in the mail saying that I had been accepted to Hogwarts. I had secretly written to the headmaster, Dumbledore and pleaded for him to let me in. I guess it worked.

When I told my dad he was upset at first and begged me not to go. But I broke him down and he finally said I could.

I was so excited, I never had any wizard friends before. Yet, I was also scared - scared that I wouldn't be good enough or know enough magic or even fit in. I never felt like I had fit in at my old school, I never really had any close friends. I was hoping that would change here.

Even though it was my first year, I was going to be placed into the 4th year class with everyone else my age. I'm thankful my father decided to teach me, it would've been so embarrassing to have to be the oldest person in the first year class.

I'm standing in the entrance to Hogwarts with a couple other transfer students my year waiting to be placed into their houses. An older lady in a black robe and black hat is standing in front of us, "Come along now children," she says and turns around and waves her wand.

Suddenly the two big doors in front of us open. I look in and everyone is staring at us. I gulp and my face turns bright red.

We start walking down the center of the great hall. I look around at all the students sitting at 4 preposterously long tables - one for each of the four houses I presume. I look up and see candles floating and what appears to look like the night sky above. I open my mouth in awe.

We finally get to the end of the hall and I see a strange looking hat sitting on a chair. Behind that is a table filled with older men and women, and what looks like a dwarf.

Then an ancient looking man with a giant beard stands up. My dad told me about him - Headmaster Dumbledore no doubt.

He welcomes us before sitting back down.

The old woman in the witch's hat pulls out a scroll, "When you hear your name you will come forth, I will place the Sorting Hat on your head and be sorted into your houses," she says.

"Delia Clarke."

My eyes widen. Oh of course I'm first. Blasted last name Clarke. I timidly make my way up to the chair in front of us.

I sit down, my cheeks flush with heat. The witch puts the hat on my head. It feels funny.

"Hmmm Clarke, I think I know just where to put you... except I also sense a strange feeling within you that questions me to put you elsewhere...."

What no not Slytherin, it can't be...

"....very well then. Hufflepuff!" The sorting hat remarks.

I close my eyes breathe a sigh of relief. Just where I was hoping to be.... Although alarm runs through me about what the Sorting Hat said about a strange feeling, but I push that to the side for now.

I open my eyes and see all the Hufflepuffs stand up and start to cheer. A big smile crosses over my face and for once I feel like I belong somewhere.

I get up and make my way over to the Hufflepuff table. I spy an empty seat next to a tall boy with dark luscious hair and bushy eyebrows.

I can't help but stare at him, he's gorgeous.

We all sit down and he turns to me.

"Hi, Cedric Diggory," he says with a big warm smile and reaches out his hand.

I take it and he gives me a very firm handshake.

"Um, I'm uh Delia Clarke," I stutter out, staring into his dark brown puppy dog eyes.

"Welcome to Hufflepuff Delia Clarke."
