I don't know how long he'd been standing there..... Did he see.... That? That almost kiss. Fuck. Did he hear that question...about Cedric? And my answer?

My head starts reeling.

I had forgotten why I had come here in the first place. For the boy standing right in front of us. And suddenly I was wanting to be anywhere else but there. Wishing I had never left the warm comfort of the Hufflepuff common room. My only solace being that I had just consoled one of my friends.

"Shouldn't you Hufflepuffs be with Diggory? Kissing the champion's royal ass?" Malfoy asks coldly.

Milo gets up abruptly and I follow suit, both of us staring at the blonde haired boy in front of us. He was leaning on the wall at the top of the staircase across the room.

"Come on, Delia. The Slytherin prince, oh sorry, I meant the Slytherin prick, has suddenly made it a lot more unpleasant up here," Milo sneers.

At least his sense of humor had returned.

He grabbed my hand and started walking us towards the staircase, right towards him.

"Yes that's right, scram, Hufflefuck." He flourished with his typical Malfoy charm.

"So witty..." Milo teases, scrunching his face up and rolling his eyes. We were right next to him now. "...dickhead." Milo whisper-shouts at Malfoy as his foot hits the first stair.

But Malfoy's cold hand suddenly wraps around my wrist.

"Not you, Clarke. We have business," he says.

And there I am being pulled in two different directions, with their grasps around both my limbs.

"What the fuck are you on about this time, Malfoy? Get your hands off her!" Milo shouts protectively, eyes glaring at Malfoy.

"Why don't you tell him, Clarke?" Malfoy looks at me, eyes willing me to say something that would satisfy Milo to let him leave without me.

And suddenly that smell washes over me, that intoxicating mint. The cold hand wrapped around my wrist. The proximity to him. His cold steel grey eyes cutting through me like they had done before. It reminds me why I decided to come up here.

"He-he's right Milo, there's something that Malfoy and I have to discuss." I say with as much false confidence as I can muster.

"Oh... oh what-what's that then?" Milo asks looking at me now, no sense of accusation in his tone or his eyes, just a calm sincere question.

"Uh - well... you see uh.." Now I didn't know what to say to this, my friend looked so vulnerable, it almost hurt me to try to lie to him when what I said before had so easily lowered his guard.

Malfoy interrupts, almost sensing my hesitation, not skipping a beat, "If you must know, Tremblay, Snape has unfortunately requested that I tutor Clarke in potions after her deplorable showing in class today. So, I reluctantly have to make her aware of my schedule." Not a misstep anywhere in his words.

I looked to Milo, the guardedness in him was back up, but ever so slightly, no doubt at the fact that Malfoy had responded and not me.

"It's alright Milo, I can handle him. I'll be back to the common room as soon as I can," I say.
