It's been exactly 365 days. 365 days since the worst day of your life. 365 days since you felt your heart break into a million pieces. 365 days since you caught the love of your life cheat on you on what was supposed to be the best day. But in those 365 days, you grew up and out of your heartache. Even so, today was just filled with the memories of your ex.
It was your anniversary date. You told Oikawa you'd have to stay home and work late and it'll be a while for you to come home. This morning he acted as if it wasn't your five year anniversary. You thought nothing of it as you thought he'd been planning a surprise for you.
On your way home, all you'd hope was to come home to your loving boyfriend. Work was rough and customers were yelling, it was just so tiring. You needed to snuggle up with your love.
Once you arrived at the doorstep, you opened the door to, well, nothing. Well, not nothing. A pair of women's shoes that were too small to be yours at the doorstep. You scanned the empty living room and kitchen to spot nothing really. You climbed up the stairs to find something you wish you didn't find.
A blue dress on the floor along side some of your boyfriend's clothes. You followed the trail of clothes to your shared bedroom. You wished you didn't hear what you did but you had to.
"Ah~" A female voice moaned. "Fuck! Just like that~"
"You like that baby girl?" You heard Oikawa moaned. "I'll take care of you real good."
You backed away from the door. Stumbling back and knocking over a photo of you and Oikawa. You got cut on your arm in the process. Your small crash caused the lewd noises to cease and you panicked. You stood up, ignoring your bleeding arm and tried to rush out the door.
"Y/n?" You heard as you went down the stairs. "Wait! Y/n- honey it's not what you think-"
You reached the living room but as you tried to approach the door you felt Oikawa grab your arm. "Let go!" You tugged.
"Y/n! Baby you're bleeding-" You shoved him off you.
"Don't baby me you jerk!" You turned back to the door. "I hate you!"
You ran out of there. You were gone within seconds, Oikawa couldn't even stand up to stop you. Your chest hurt and your eyelids were moist from your tears. You drove to the nearest hotel and you cried your eyes out. Hell, you were so frustrated that your threw and broke your phone. You thought your world was over.
But that was 365 days ago. Today, even though the memories haunt you, you were happy. You were the happiest you'd been in a while. Promoted at a new job, made new friends, developed a potential crush on someone.
Today you were meeting with some old high school friends. You were waiting patiently at a coffee shop for your friends in the corner of the cafe. Your friends texted you saying that they'd be a little late. As you waited and sipped on your coffee, you heard someone approach your table. You didn't look up from your phone as the person spoke.
"Is this seat taken?" That voice. It's been a year but you couldn't forget that voice. You looked up and saw Oikawa holding the back of the chair. "Hi Y/n."
"The seats taken," You say bluntly. "Go away."
"What?" Oikawa was taken back by your tone, you never spoke to him so bluntly.
"Are you deaf?" You put down your phone and crossed your arms. "I said, go away."
"Y/n, can we please talk?" Oikawa sits anyways. He touches your arm and you pull away immediately. "I miss you. I'm sorry for what I did."
"Sorry you did it or sorry you got caught?" You raised your eyebrow. Oikawa seemed like a deer in the headlights. "What's wrong? Didn't expect me to act this way?"
"You're just different, what happened to the girl I loved?" Oikawa seemed genuinely hurt.
"What happened was you cheated on me on our anniversary of all days. You wasted five years of my life thinking I'd marry you. Listen Oikawa," He is taken back by your words. "It's been one year, that's 365 days since you fucked up. Now if you've been sulking this entire time, you should move on. I'm over you and I've moved on."
"I-" Oikawa watched as you stood up to leave. You notice he's still wearing the string necklace you made him with his promise ring on it. You reached over and ripped off the string.
"You don't deserve to wear this," You tossed the necklace on the table. "I have to go, my boyfriend is here."
You say as you walked over to your group of friends with the aforementioned budding crush. Oikawa watched as your crush draped his arm over you and walked away together away from the cafe.
After your gathering with your friends, you arrived home and almost immediately fell to the ground. Seeing Oikawa again took a physical toll over you. You didn't know you could be so harsh to the man you once loved. You felt your eyes water and you hid your face in your hands. Crying your eyes out on the floor over the man you planned your life with. You hated the fact that you still had love for him.
He spent five years devoting himself to you. He made you happy those years. He was your world and you were his. Oikawa had his fans in college and high school but you were his number one. You were his special love. Yet you lied to him, saying you moved on but you can't. You grew past the mistake but you can't forgive him.
Oikawa on the other hand, still lived in the same house as he did when you two lived together. He laid on his stomach as he examined the ring you gave him. He always wore it on his necklace because it was too small but it was a custom promise ring. It was a wooden ring with carving on the inside.
He noticed the carving on the inner ring. It was your name next to the date you two started dating. You gave the ring to him on your one year anniversary. He was frustrated too, he didn't think you moved on so quickly. It didn't seem like it on social media.
"Why am I so fucking stupid!" Oikawa cried. He hid his face into his cushions. He sat up and walked over to his bedroom. He puts the ring down on his drawer and he slides open his closet door. He wiped away his tears before grabbing a coat. As he puts it on, a small box falls out the pocket. "Huh?"
He knelt down to pick it up and opened it. It was the same ring you gave him before. There was a small note folded on top. "Sorry the last one didn't fit baby, maybe this one will," Oikawa read. He takes out the ring and slips it on his ring finger. Almost immediately he breaks down into tears. "I'm sorry Y/n. You deserved better."
