A frown was evident on your face. You're very, very sure that you don't have insomnia, so why can't you sleep for the past nights?

"Belphie!" you shouted the next morning, slamming open the bedroom door. Seems like Beel, Belphie's twin, had already gone downstairs to eat half of the food on the table. A tired groan escaped the always cat-napping demon's lips as he gazed at you sleepily.

"What do you want, asshole?" Belphie grumbled, clutching his cow-print pillow closer to his chest as he tried to return to dreamland. "Let me sleep."

You ran over and shook him, trying to keep him awake. "I can't sleep! Help me!"

Belphie sat up, surprise on his face. "How can you not sleep?"

Now he's finally awake.

You shrugged. "I dunno. Please offer me your sleeping services." And please don't charge Grimm for that I'm broke.

Belphie yawned. "Okay. I'll sleep with you tonight and help you sleep."

Later, when evening fell, you both finished dinner and headed to your room. Beel was confused as to why Belphie wasn't sleeping in their room until you explained the situation. Mammon, of course, was against Belphie sleeping in your room, but Lucifer held him back.

The avatar of sloth gestured for you to lay down next to him on your bed and you obliged, facing away from him. He wrapped his arms around you, keeping you in his grip.

A couple of minutes passed but you still couldn't sleep.

"Belphie?" you murmured.

No answer. This son of a bitch fell asleep.

"Belphie!" You turn around, shaking the navy blue-haired demon back awake. "Your sleeping service sucks!"

"Mine does not!" he protested, his words blurring slightly from sleepiness.

"I still can't fall asleep!"

Belphie grumbled, shifting around in the bed. "Close your eyes, count some sheep."

"If that works I would've been asleep already!" you snap, not angry at Belphie, but frustrated and embarrassed that you couldn't sleep and dragged someone else to your bedroom to help you sleep. "... sorry I didn't mean to snap at you."

Belphie's blue-violet eyes locked on yours for a moment, and you felt your breathing stop. His eyes are lovely, with pink gradients in them.

"... I'll sing you a lullaby if you want," Belphie mumbled. "That's it."

A lullaby sang by Belphie? Oh heck yeah.

You nodded eagerly, closing your eyes in anticipation as Belphie cleared his throat. His arms holding you tightened a bit, but not to the point it was uncomfortable. You can feel his chest against your back, drawing in air as he began.

"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me and love another
You'll regret it all someday

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

You told me once, dear, you really loved me
And no one else could come between
But now you've left me and love another
You have shattered all of my dreams

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me
When I awake my poor heart pains
So when you come back and make me happy
I'll forgive you, dear, I'll take all the blame

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away."

Surprisingly, Belphie was a good singer. His voice never cracked, and the sweet melody of the lullaby was starting to make you close your eyes. The song was filled with bittersweet lyrics, a tale of love, a dream for love, and a parting as the heart shatters. An unrequited love.

You could feel your eyes began to shut, wondering why Belphie chose this song out of all the lullabies he could've sung. But then, "You are my Sunshine" is fairly longer than other lullabies, and has a sense of a dreamlike tone intertwined with the melody.

Who knew Belphie, who calls you an asshole just for waking him up, is the same person who is now singing you to sleep?

Your even-paced breathing signaled Belphie that now you were sound asleep, completing his mission. He buried his head into the crook of your neck, a smile gracing his lips.

The avatar of sloth wants to sleep now since you were asleep, but he wants to do something before taking away to dreamland.

Belphie placed a gentle kiss on your cheek, then another on your ear, and another on your neck before snuggling you close to his chest. He would've gone for the lips, but that might be too advantageous and unfair. He wants you to kiss him while you're awake and aware that it was him.

For now, this is enough for Belphegor.

BONUS:

You rushed downstairs to the dining hall, where six of the brothers were eating.

"None of you told me Belphie was a good singer!" you shouted, slamming your hands down onto the table which earned you a glare from Lucifer.

Silence.

"Belphie can sing?"

Author's note: I thought the idea was cute. The problem is that this is less than 1000 words which bothers me because I usually write chapters with 2000+ words. Oof.

Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed it.

And yes, this is a desperate attempt at getting this past 1000 words. It's not working.
