"No. I don't like this not one bit, you're not going" Max said with his arms crossed leaning against the doorframe of Brooklyn's room watching her getting ready.
It was now Friday and she was getting ready for her date, while Max protested of course. "Relax I'm only doing it to get more information out of him, they seem pretty open. And besides I didn't give him my address, he acts like a smart ass let's see how smart he really is" she said rolling her eyes at Max.
"Okay but you better be home before eleven and he better not try anything funny" Max said, "thanks dad I can take care of myself you know" she patted his arm as she walked by. "Oh yeah like you took care of yourself the last time?" Max froze after hearing the words leave his mouth.
Brooklyn stopped what she was doing and stared into space. "I'm sorry Bee I didn't mean-", "it's fine I know exactly what you meant" she said through greeted teeth. Max walked to her and took her hand in his turning her around. She looked down at the floor, he place his hands on her shoulders.
"I'm sorry for saying that, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I'm just looking out for you and I'd kill this guy if he ever hurt you" he said his voice soothing and just above a whisper. "I know you're looking out for me. But you need to trust me, I'm just doing it to get more information on them. I have a feeling he's hiding something. And anyway if anyone's going to get hurt it'll be him" she spoke finally looking up at him.
Max smirked down at her proudly. "Okay I'll let you finish getting ready" he said kissing her forehead before turning and walking out of her room. Brooklyn sighed and sat down at her dresser, she wore a pair of blue jeans and a pink lace of the shoulder top.
She had to stay focused and remember her reasons for starting this and why she was there in that moment. She stared at herself in the mirror not recognising the person who stared back at her. This person had pale skin, dull grey eyes and dull blonde hair. Her features where sharper, no doubt she had become more beautiful over the years. But this person was not her, she felt trapped in her own body.
The screeching of tyres and then the door bell ringing pulled her out of her thoughts. She shot up from her seat and grabbed her things before rushing down the stairs. She saw Max's large figure filling the doorframe and blocking her from seeing who was on the outside.
"Can I help you?" Max asked the person. Brooklyn pushed past him and saw a very nervous looking Ryan on the other side of the door. "It's okay he's the friend I'm going out with" she said patting Max's chest. Max narrowed his eyes at Ryan who visibly gulped.
"I want her home by elven and don't try anything pretty boy, or else you'll end up like the last guy" he threatened. Brooklyn bit her lip holding back a laugh. "Okay let's go before you give him a heart attack" she said cutting in.
She walked outside but Max grabbed her hand pulling her back, all the while making eye contact with Ryan. "Be careful" he whispered into her ear, "I will" she replied giving him a hug. He kissed her cheek before letting her go.
"Let's go" she said walking with Ryan to his mustang. He opened her door and she got in before he closed it and walked to the other side. "So where are we going?" She asked as Ryan wearily eyed Max who was still standing by the door watching them.
He turned to Brooklyn and smiled, "well I did say I wanted to get to know you" he winked before pulling away from her house. They drove to McDonald's and got a table after ordering their food.
"Out of all places why here?" She asked dipping a fry in the sauce before taking a bite. "I had a craving and I want some place chilled" he said wiping his mouth after taking a bite of his burger.
"Well you managed to get me out, now ask what you want" she said. "So first question how did you end up here?" He asked. "Here where?" She asked looking around, "in Fettyville" he took a sip of his soda. "I was in an orphanage in Miami, and Nana found me then she adopted me before moving here" she shrugged not wanting to bring up the memories.
"I'm sorry I didn't know" he said apologetically, "don't worry how could you of known. My mother was a crakhead and I never knew my father so it's fine" she repiled. "What about that guy that you live with who's he?" He asked stealing a fry from her. "Max? He's Nana's grandson. His parents died a while ago" she said with a solemn look in her eyes.
"I still don't feel like I'm getting what I want from you" he said, "I'm answering all your questions aren't I?" She asked. "Yeah but I don't think I'm asking the right questions" he said stroking his fake beard. "Tell me when you find out which questions are the right ones then" she said finishing off her burger.
"You really are something else" he said looking at her a small smile on his face. "You haven't seen anything yet" she winked at him. He laughed, "Okay let's get out of here" he said picking up their tray.
"So where to next?" She asked falling into step with him as they walked to the car. "To my house" he said, she halted in her steps. He noticed her stop and turned to look at her, "Relax my friends are having a little party and I want you to meet them" he said with a smile on his face.
"Why do your friends have parties in your house when you're not around?" She asked getting into his car. "They live with me" he shrugged.
