"I don't really have the time to explain everything to you in less than a week, so how about you observe, and I'll tell you what's actually going on?" (Name) suggested, getting nods of approval from her classmates. They were outside of the school, and (B/N) was with them. She sent out a Smeargle to draw the lines of the battlefield.
"Pokemon battles are meant to show all the power, abilities, and advantages in Pokemon," (B/N) explained. "It's a great way to get to know your Pokemon and get friendly with each other. There are type match ups, abilities, stats, levels, and lots of other things. Why don't you try figuring things out as we go?"
"The victor of the battles also depend on what kind of battle it is," (Name) added. "For example, there are one-on-one battles, where trainers can send out only one Pokemon. Then there are double battles, triple, and lots more, but we'll start with the basic one-on-one single battle." Choosing her Pokemon, she sent it out. "Let's go, Lucario!"
The dog like Pokemon appeared. Everyone looked at it in awe while taking mental and physical notes.
"Oh? The one we traded?" (B/N) noticed. "Then I guess I'll send this one out. Come on out, Gengar!" A purple bipedal creature came out with a wide smile. "That's right. Haunter evolves into Gengar when you trade it," he smirked.
"So cool..." (Name) said, her eyes glimmering.
"Can you ever remain serious?"
"I'll be the referee, then!" Rotom exclaimed, taking the spot. "This will be a one-on-one single battle between the team of (Name) and Lucario against the team of (B/N) and Gengar! If both trainers are ready, then battle may begin!" Almost immediately, both sides began attacking. A rush of wind was made as soon as Rotom finished its speech.
"Shadow Sneak," (B/N) ordered as Gengar morphed into a shadow to sneak behind Lucario.
"Use your spikes on your fists to reflect the light on Gengar!" (Name) quickly commaded. Lucario, following his trainer's orders, adjusted the light beam by using his spikes, so the Aura Pokemon was able to dodge the attack. "Nice! But, since that Shadow Sneak was going to be a good move, Lucario, use Me First!" Lucario also turned into a shadow and hit Gengar, and because Ghost type moves are super effective on Ghost types, that did massive damage.
"Looks like the move, 'Me First' can only be used if the opposing creature uses a move, then the user of 'Me First' can mimic that same move," Tenya observed.
"Pokemon," Izuku corrected, "but, you're right. It also seems that 'Shadow Sneak' was dodged by 'Lucario', but 'Me First' still worked."
"That's right! Great observations!" Rotom exclaimed. "Lucario had to dodge it because it is a Fighting and Steel type Pokemon! Shadow Sneak is a Ghost type move, which will get a 'stab', or power boost from a Ghost and Poison Pokemon like Gengar. Also, Ghost moves are super effective on Fighting Pokemon. However, Ghost moves are super effective on Ghost Pokemon!"
"Wait, I thought Pokemon could have only one type?" Tsuyu said.
"Well, no," Rotom sweat dropped. "Pokemon can have up to two types. Pokemon with two types are called Dual type Pokemon. You can take Lucario and Gengar as an example. However, each type comes with an advantage and disadvantage. An electric move would do 2 times the damage on a Water type and Flying type. For example, if Togedemaru used a Zing Zap on a Pelipper, then it would do 4 times damage. It's basically simple multiplication!"
"So both Pokemon are at a disadvantage here," Momo guessed.
"Well, mostly Gengar, actually," Rotom pointed out. "Poison and Steel Pokemon can't be poisoned. One of Gengar's moves is Venoshock, which can poison a Pokemon. However, Lucario knows Bone Rush, a Ground type move. Ground type moves are super effective on Poison Pokemon!"
