victors' night
Once the referee called the end of the match Wynter couldn't help but let out a burst of elation as a huge grin fell upon her lips, hoisting herself on Sadio's back. Despite Liverpool being officially announced as Premier League Champions a few weeks before, this game came as much more significant to the players as they would finally have the opportunity to have their coronation of being Kings (and Queen) of the Premier League and essentially, English football.
Bouncing around the pitch waiting to receive the trophy and medals, Wynter wandered towards everyone to offer and receive her congratulations, expressing her thoughts and excitement surrounding to shared achievement. She was really happy, beyond it even. There was doubt and complications and hesitation along the way, placing Wynter and all the players in a vulnerable position questioning if they would be able to fulfil every Liverpool fan's dreams for the first time in forever.
But those dreams came full circle. Appearing like a tangible task, it surely didn't come easy. From suddenly having to drop football for a few months to playing matches without the attendance of their fans all while maintaining a victor mentality for one another and themselves—of course, everything didn't come easy.
Pressure and uncertainty and judgement surfing amongst the players during the whole process of claiming the league. In the end, nonetheless, the boys and Wynter prevailed for Liverpool and no one couldn't take such an accomplishment away from them. The world was theirs to hold and keep.
So when the time came for each player to receive their medals Wynter couldn't hold back her emotions. Her tears, her adoring gaze; and all for a certain player while recording him. Even though she adored (and found annoyance in) the boys equally, with Trent being her significant other there was just another layer of pride for him as she witnessed him walk across the stage.
With everything that the two had to through—as teammates, as a couple—and yet still maintain his physicality and claim his accomplishments with the club), Wynter found it hard to just simply discard all of that and not offer the rightful praise that Trent earned from the beginning of the season.
Noticing the few shed tears by his teammate, Virgil placed a comforting hand on her back. "Why are you crying? You haven't even gone up yet!"
"I don't know," she said, glancing at her teammate as she fanned her eyes. Wynter shrugged her shoulders. "My emotions have been acting up—" She didn't finish the sentence as she burst into tears causing Virgil to pull her into a hug while he laughed at her reaction. And Virgil wasn't too worried about it—he knew it sourced from her pride for Trent.
And that same pride was reciprocated by the scouse.
Whether or not she was involved in a match or not, always did Wynter shower the scouse with more than enough support and love before the match occurred. Her hugs, her kisses, her words—her kisses. Unfortunately, the french player hadn't started for Liverpool yet she offered no less love and support than if she was. He was focused on the game though he noticed all of her. How she would cheer whenever he had the ball, how she would encourage everyone else to do the same, how she covered her face when he dedicated his goal to her. He made sure to blow a kiss her way and his smile only grew wide when she catch it.
Not only did Wynter become the encouragement of the squad; she was also the reason for encouragement as she later scored a goal to secure the team's win at Anfield.
In terms of football—subjectively and objectively—there were a lot of things that Trent and Wynter could level on. And Trent could bring himself to side with such argument on any day. Though sometimes he simply found himself amazed by Wynter's ability to come into a space where she had no chance against anyone even in peak form and outdo everyone. Every match she played, every time she had the ball by her feet, she managed to outperform every other player, ultimately placing them to shame.
