It was missing.
That presence that had found home at the back of her mind. For at least a week. Now she felt uneasy at the absence, rather than the presence.
So, when it returned, something in her mind slotted into place. She wanted to take this chance.
"Hello?" She called out. "I know you're there."
The presence seemed to pause at that. Aiyla marvelled at how acute her sense had become. There was no reply.
"Are you a ghost?" She asked, feeling foolish before the words even left her mouth.
Besides, ghosts can't touch.
"You can at least reply, you know," she mumbled, "whoever you are."
"One would consider it to be foolhardy to talk to a stranger." It was the voice that said 'Ameen.'
She was stunned that someone actually replied that it took a moment for the words to register. She bristled. "Oh, so you can talk... Amazing!"
"I've spoken before." He reminded her.
"Haha," she muttered, racking her brain to come up with something smart to say back. "One would consider it to be creepy to sit and watch a blind girl in her backyard."
"Touche." He said. "But who said I was watching? Maybe, I'm just ruminating in my backyard."
Aiyla wanted to kill this smart-mouthed stranger.
