"Where are we going?"
Millicent asks after about seven minutes of walking. I feel relieved that she asked and I didn't have to because I always get too nervous to talk to Draco. Draco abruptly stops, turns to us, and says:
"We are going to the first floor, if Potter takes the obvious route into the castle, I want to be the one to catch him."
I see a small gleam in his eyes, but it's not determined or ambitious, it's... Fear and sadness. I don't press the subject of his eyes, instead I just nod and follow him to the first floor.
We make it to the first floor, however the moment we turn to the doors to the outside, Professor Slughorn comes rushing towards us. His chest is heaving, and his face is dripping with sweat; it's very clear that he sprinted the length of the castle.
He stops in front of us, and starts to fidget nervously. Before Slughorn can even speak, Millicent whips out her wand and says:
"it's Potter isn't it? We are going to have to choose sides aren't we?"
Slughorn looks down to the floor to avoid eye contact, and he answers...
" yes you're going to have to choose sides. Snape and the Carrows are out of the picture and-"
"What do you mean by out of the picture"
Draco cuts Slughorn off, and a sudden rush of fear for Draco hits me. Snape is Draco's godfather, if Snape is dead then I don't think Draco will be able to live with himself. I grip Draco's hand in mine, and we wait for Slughorn to answer.
"Snape is alive, but I don't know where he is."
A wave of relief hits me like a truck. Draco visibly relaxes, and I let go of his hand. Slughorn continues as if there is no interruption:
"I already told every Slytherin (you are the last group that doesn't know) but everyone is meeting in the great Hall, and by everyone I mean the entire school"
Draco and I nod, but I hear Goyal crack his knuckles behind us. Draco and I turn to look at him, and as we are turning I hear Millicent, she lets out a cry of fear. Out of the corner of my eye I see her lean onto Crabbe.
Draco and I turn around even faster, and we both see Crabbe shrug at Millicent's hold, and he puts an arm around her. Goyal, Draco, Me, and even Slughorn are all too shocked to speak. Crabbe frogmarches Millicent from the room before any of us can say anything. Goyal follows Crabbe, but keeps his distance from the two lovebirds, and Slughorn (who seemed to have seen enough teen romance for today) quickly follows Goyal.
Draco and I just stare at each other. We take a moment to register what we just saw, and when we finally do register it, we burst out laughing. For a wonderful moment we are just two kids, laughing at the fact that our two friends just started dating out of nowhere.
Still laughing, Draco grabs my hand and pulls me into a hug. When he lets go of me; I am a blushing, stuttering mess. I try to say something but my tongue seems too twisted. Draco chuckles at my feeble attempt at words, and leans in to kiss me.
I back away instinctively, and Draco stops coming on to me. He's about to check to make sure I am okay, but as he is about to check, a wave of courage runs through my body and I kiss him.
The kiss feels wonderful. I feel his soft lips brushing against mine, and I can't help but to feel sad.
Sad because this might be my last day alive. Sad because I might have to see Draco or another loved one dead tonight. Sad because I know that wherever Potter goes, war seems to follow. I let out a small sob, and we broke apart.
Draco seems to understand why I got emotional, and so he puts a protective arm around me, and walks me out of the room, but I still can't stop the single tear that runs down my face.
