it's september 9th 2146, the day before mothers birthday. she doesn't look at her birthday the same anymore because it was supposed to be shared. she was a twin, i was supposed to have an aunt or uncle.
my grandmother was devastated when she heard the news. she would have to pick one child to stay alive, while the other one would be floated when they turned 18. she also refused to have any contact with it, to avoid attachment. but that never really worked, it was her child. she still ached to hold it and care for it. the same with my mother.
they never let us know the sex, to avoid attachment. and my mother felt so alone, like there was a piece of her missing.
"june!" i whispered across the hallway, waiting for them to give me a thumbs up so the coast was clear.
i saw a little hand give me a wave, that meant wait. shortly after, they gave me a thumbs up and i started sprinting down the hallway to break into the room. i used my pocket knife to break the lock, and quickly entered without making a sound.
the antique room.
i looked around, this has changed since i've been here. they're probably in the middle of doing inventory. that means i have to be weary of what i pick.
my mother likes paintings yes, but i already stole all of the small ones. so there's no way i'm getting a huge ass painting out of this room.
i looked at the music records, my eyes pass by couple favorites. like one direction, britney spears, and all time low.
my mom would love if i found matchbox twenty. i looked through the aisle couple more times, losing hope, until i found it all dusty in between two shelves. i grabbed it, careful not to make any noise and examined it.
exile on mainstream. her favorite. i smiled brightly, thinking of how excited she'll be when i give this to her. i've already been in here long enough so i hurriedly rush out. my attention was quickly grabbed as i was about to open the door, i saw something shiny out of the corner of my eye. my curiosity got the better of me and i sped walk over to the object. i picked it up and examined it. it was a necklace, it had many pearls and was bulky.

my mother would love it.
i quickly took the necklace along with the album and left. june was waiting outside the door for me.
