"Shawty bad with the Skechers on, wanna hold your hand, make you my girl, light up, light up, Skechers, light up, light up my world..."
George wanted to cry. He'd made so much progress with Clay that time, and just like that, it was gone. Clay didn't remember any of it. George was back in England, woken up yet again by that stupid ringtone.
An arm reached across him to grab the phone, and George's eyes flew open.
"Hello?" Clay said into the phone as George stared at him in astonishment.
"Sapnap? It's like 8am, why did you wake me up this early?" Clay listened to the boy on the other end of the call, then glanced over at the clock, which very clearly read 12:47pm. "Oh, so it is. Anyway, what's up?"
How? How was he still there? George and Clay were supposed to be on opposite sides of the world, just as they had been every single day for years.
"All right, I'm gonna hang up now, George is visiting." Clay listened to whatever Nick had to say, then blushed and rolled his eyes. "Oh, shut up. Bye, Sap." He pressed the end call button, then looked over at George. "You okay, George? You look like you've seen a ghost."
George opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to figure out what to say. "How... am I here?" he finally asked.
Clay wheezed. "What do you mean? You flew here yesterday. Did you forget or something?"
"No, I just- what- what day is it?"
"Wednesday, November... something. I dunno the exact date."
Holy shit. It had been Tuesday for so long that hearing the name of any other day of the week felt alien to George. He could hardly remember what life was like outside the time loop. And yet, it was somehow the next day. He climbed out of the bed to look out the window. There was no doubt about it, he was in America. As he stepped back, a smile broke out on his face, and he dove back onto the bed, engulfing Clay in a hug. "I fucking love you, Dream," he said, laughing happily.
Clay laughed, hugging back. "I love you, too," he said. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fantastic. Never been better," George said, and he meant it with all his heart. Not only was the loop that had tortured him for years finally at an end, but he had a boyfriend who loved him.
Maybe, just maybe, happy endings were real.
