"Shawty bad with the Skechers on, wanna hold your hand, make you my girl..."

George immediately sat up and answered the phone. "Okay, what the hell?" he said in place of a greeting.

"Whoa, what's wrong, George?"

"This is the third time in a row you've called me. There's no way this is just deja vu," George said firmly, climbing out of bed and opening his computer.

"George, I- 'third time'?" Clay repeated. "I haven't called you in days. I was just wondering if you were ready to record."

George had opened his editing program, and sure enough, there was no manhunt video, just the vlog. He removed the phone from his ear and hung up.

——

Every day was the same. George didn't understand it, but somehow, the day was repeating over and over, and he was the only one aware of it.

There's no way, he insisted to himself. Someone's playing a prank on me. This isn't real.

But as the day looped again and again, the truth started to sink in.

One morning, he answered the phone and, before Clay could say anything, asked, "Dream, if you only had one day to live, what would you do?"

Clay thought for a minute, then said, "Well, I'd try to do as much as I can to live what little life I have left to the fullest." Then he thought for a few more seconds and added, "On the other hand, I could probably do whatever I want, since I wouldn't have to fear punishment. I guess it mostly depends on whether or not I feel like throwing out all my morals. Why?"

"No reason, I was just thinking about that sort of thing."

Clay let out a confused, "All right," then asked, "Are you ready to record soon?"

"Could we put it off 'til tomorrow? I'm tired," George requested.

"Yeah, sure. Talk to you later, then?"

"Yeah, bye."

After hanging up, George thought about what Clay had said. No consequences... that was a good point. If this loop was actually happening, that meant no one would remember what he'd done. In fact, he'd never done it at all.

This opened up a world of possibilities, many of which he wasn't sure he could go through with. But there were several that he might as well try out.
