The spring air was kind of chilly as Mark walked down the sidewalk. He had a plain black sweatshirt and black skinny jeans on. He was wearing his new red converse. He looked at his feet, his hands in his pockets, and his music in his ears as he walked towards the library. He passed the group of homeless people that are always in the alley way between the grocery store and little convenience store. I'm no better than them, He thought to himself. The majority of them were smoking and he knew most of them were on some kind of drugs. He knew it was a cliche that all homeless people did drugs, but all the ones that lived around here did it seemed. He avoided them and turned down a few more blocks. He walked through the library doors and made his way to the right section. He finally found a few books on the right topic and sat down at a table. He opened the first book scanning through the table of contents for what he was looking for. After twenty minutes of research he began to get frustrated. Why should he have to do this? Why did he agree to do this?
He pushed the current book away and sat there for a second. He looked around the silent building at all the books. He never liked reading much, but he did come to the library a lot. It was just peaceful here. Not many students came unless they were working on a project, like him. He wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for the fact that the teacher told them they needed at least three book sources for the project.
Mark suddenly caught sight of a girl sitting crossed legged on the floor, her back resting against a bookshelf. She was reading a rather thick book and seemed rather lost in the pages. He found himself staring a little. She had long, light blonde hair, that looked natural. It was parted far over on the right side and was completely straight. Jagged bangs slanted across her forehead. Her hair went down to about her mid back. She had dark eyeliner on and had it on thick on her eyelids. She had long eyelashes too and obviously quite a bit of mascara, but other than that, she didn't appear to have any other obviousmakeup. She had clear skin and a pretty little nose. Who was he kidding, everything about her was really pretty.
She had on black skinny jeans and a black hoodie. Her clothes all seemed a little ratty and old. The jeans were very faded and looked a little small. Next to her was an army green jacket. She looked up at him for a moment and Mark quickly averted his eyes, feeling his face burn up. She looked back down at her book seemingly unperturbed.
Mark sat there nervously looking everywhere except at the girl. She stood and walked away after a few minutes. Mark felt an odd mixture of disappointment and relief. She probably left because he was annoying or weird. She had a confidence in the way she walked that made him feel a little intimidated, but she had a warm face that seemed welcoming as well. She was soon out of sight and Mark was left alone at the back of the library. He pulled out a stack of cards and began practicing his card tricks that he liked to do for fun. He was memorizing how to do one when he saw a group of people he recognized from school walk in. The librarian glared at them disapprovingly since they were slightly noisy, but didn't say anything. Mark gathered his things quickly. He didn't feel like awkwardly sitting there. He knew what would happen if he stayed there, "oh look it's that weird kid Mark!" One would say. He left in a rush, passing the girl he saw before. He began walking home. He wondered who that girl had been, he didn't recognize her from school. He basically at least knew of just about everyone in his school, but he didn't know who she was. He erased her from his thoughts and hurried home.
He repeated what he had last night. Writing the horrid words on himself. He wrote as if it was someone else saying those things. "Just die" "you'll be alone forever" "who could ever like you".................
