It's the day of tryouts. As a cornerback, I'm ready to tackle these boys and show them what I'm made of.

"P. Jones!" Coach calls out. "I see you signed up for CB. Are you sure you're fast enough, son?"

I nodded.

"Alright. Let's put it to the test. Harding! Morris! Fall in!"

The wide receiver and Aaron get ready. I keep my eye on 'Morris'.

"HUT, HIKE!" Aaron says when the center snaps the ball, and the wide receiver sprints off. I'm quick behind him. I notice the cheer team working on a pyramid on the sidelines. I then realize Morris caught the ball, and I tackle him... And we end up playing bowling with the cheerleaders. Violet falls off the top. I get up and take off my helmet.

"I am so, so, sorry. I-" An angry Violet cuts me off.

"What the hell!! First, you make me late to school by cutting through traffic, yesterday, next you're making my squad mess up, almost giving me a concussion. What is your problem?!" she yells.

"Look princess, just because you're good looking, popular, and have money, doesn't mean you're entitled to be a total bitch," I retorted.

Violet practically fumes like in those old cartoons where the steam comes out of their ears. She lunges at me, but her friend holds her back. "YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT ME!!!"

The coach walks over. "Two things: One, Jones you're on the team. Despite being a female, you're definitely the kind of player we need. And two," he looks at both of us sternly. "If you can't settle whatever this is, I'm going to have to send you ladies to detention."

Violet's face got pale. I could see the fear in her eyes, and she looks at me. I, honestly, want to see the princess get in trouble. Maybe she'll lose the stick in her ass. Even if it gets me in trouble to teach her a lesson.

"I'm sorry," she says timidly.

I smirk. "I'm not, princess."

I see her once more become agitated.

"That's it! Detention! Now!" Coach yelled.

He directs us where to go.

Once we're away from everyone, she groans.

"You know what? Thanks. Thanks for getting this put upon my record," she says coldly.

"You're welcome," I respond with a condescending smile.

A couple of minutes later...

We walk into room 980 to see a man sitting at a piano playing "Just The Way You Are" and singing.

I sing along softly.

And when you smile,

The whole world stops and stares for a while.

Then Violet joins in.

'Cause you're amazing

Just the way you are...

We just stood there for a second afterward staring at each other.

Call me cheesy, but something felt... different. Like we had a "moment" or whatever you call it.

The man turned around. "Wow. You girls can sing. You should really join my show choir."

Show choir?
