" inordinate self-love is the cause of every sin"
- Thomas Aquinas -Kun walked into the company with confident and prideful steps. He wore black jeans, with black zivago and also a black suit. His golden necklace was standing out in his outfit. Once people notice him coming in started working without talking. Kun reached his office and closed the door behind him. Yet, behind the large glass that was placed on the wall, he could keep an eye on everyone. They didn't seem to realize that they all had started acting selfishly, doing things only to get a promotion, and prove they're better than others.
Coworkers had stopped helping each other and sharing their knowledge or experience between them. They even had started developing a very sinful habit, by stealing each other's paper works and represented them as theirs. Of course, no one cared about defending the person that was robbed as it wasn't their 'job'. The people that once were friends had turned into mortal enemies trying to set each other up. Trying to bring themselves on the top. Because that's what all people desire deep down. Be the best and achieving that by doing their worst. Healthy competition is what helps people improve. Nevertheless, there is a small line that is easily crossed, between improvement and wanting everything.
People would mostly fall into the second category and baptize it amelioration when it is excessive self-love, to the point that you neglect the people around you. Firstly strangers, then it gets so big that spreads to your family and friends. Of course, people would never apologize, people would never admit they were wrong because through their perspective they would never be wrong. Pride isn't only the fact that you assume you can do everything by yourself, is also the degradation of others, and their feelings. By only caring about oneself, every sin is born. The leader of them is pride. All the others follow once this has appeared.
Kun crossed his hands pleased while watching people working emotionless. None of them was smiling, none of them was talking to each other, none of them cared. He had managed to estrange them awakening the thought that 'they are the best'. It had filled their minds erasing every compassionate feeling they might have. Success, glory, money, were the only things to spent their energy on. Ignoring the fact this only would lead them to misery and eventually die alone. But, well, if they couldn't resist their selfish nature, it was their fault.
A knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts. After giving his permission a woman opened and said, "Mr. Qian, the candidate is here, for the interview." Kun waved at her to leave and covered the glassy window. A moment later the door opened again, revealing a girl with hazel eyes. She had her light brown hair up in a strict ponytail and she was wearing a white shirt with a pencil black skirt. Kun stared at her for a while, but quickly he found his self-control. He fixed his round glasses and pointed to the chair, "Please take a seat." he commanded and the girl sat.
"Let's start right away. First of all, you're Tian Shi," he said looking through some papers. "That's right," she commented making him raise an eyebrow. "No comments are allowed," he exclaimed strictly. Usually, this phrase made everyone stressed but her... She just smiled at him which caused his heart to skip a beat. Something that had never happened before and wasn't even possible to happen! Kun cleared his neck and placed the papers on the desk, turning his attention back at her.
"Why do you want this job?" he asked right away. Now, he wanted to hear, for money or success, things that he represented, things that were connected to the egoistic side of a person. "To help. You're an eco-friendly company after all. Isn't it suppose to make a better world for everyone?" she replied, surprising him. That felt wrong. She should not be able to control her selfish side! And it wasn't possible not having one! All people had, some more than others yes, but to some point all had! Kun's duty was to make everyone a soldier, with no emotions.
Him being a prideful leader, kept his cool. "I see. What about personal reasons?" alright, maybe some humans need an extra push. He was willing to try more. "I guess there aren't any." Tian Shi locked her eyes on his, which made him paralyze for seconds... How was that possible? Why was she so resistant? And why was he feeling weak all of sudden? Weak under her sight... It wasn't normal! That wasn't normal!
Kun placed his hand and his lower back on the desk, coming even closer to her. "Everyone has at least one personal reason. Tell me." He smirked when he saw the girl bit her lips hesitantly as he believed that he had broken her 'goodwill'. However, she stood up in front of him, with her presence being dominant. "Well, to be honest, there is one..." she exclaimed and put her hand on his chest. Kun couldn't tolerate this attitude anymore! He felt as if his pride was taken away! He grabbed her hand and squeezed it hard but the girl wasn't afraid. In fact, she was still staring into his eyes.
They were so close that he could count the shades of green in her eyes. A sense of urge overwhelmed him and kissed her without realizing what he was doing too. Her soft lips matched perfectly on his and quickly their tongues found their way to one another. They were fighting as if their lives were depending on it. At least that's what Kun was feeling. He had to fight hard to maintain his status. His pride wouldn't be satisfied if he wasn't the one to win this match. He didn't let her touch him when Tian Shi tried to put her hands on his neck and held them behind her back. The kiss was getting more and more intense by the time, and he was also feeling as if his lost dominance was coming back. A smirk formed on his lips while he sensed her melting under his kiss, causing him to be prouder than ever!
But, suddenly, he had to cut the kiss due to a pain coming from his insides. Kun held his sides and glanced at Tian Shi. The girl's eyes had turned yellow and white wings were visible behind her back. Kun's eyes widened at the same time he screamed because of the pain. He felt as if heavy wheels were running over him as if they were breaking his bones. He couldn't even stand now! He had kneeled down trying to control the pain but in vain. He could only glare at her and cursing himself for being that foolish! Tian Shi walked closer to him and effortlessly he took his necklace. "St. Augustine once said It was Pride that changed angels into devils... he couldn't be more right. You took everyone with you." she murmured while playing with the lion necklace in front of him.
"Y...You!" Kun tried to fight back but the pain didn't allow him to say anything else, only to scream once more. "Hush," Tian Shi said caressing his face. Tears were running from her eyes as she couldn't bear carrying this mission any longer! "You're my favorite. You'll always be, now rest." was the last thing Kun heard before passing out, letting her disappear.
