The inspectors swarmed the room. Maithreyi looked in a bad shape. Hollow or empty wouldn’t even begin to describe it. She hadn’t eaten at all last night. She hadn’t eaten in the morning. I asked her to atleast drink some water but she refused even that.
“When did you last speak to your daughter?”
The inspector was making notes in his diary.
“At around 7 pm before she left for school"
“School? Wasn’t it a Sunday”
“Yes, the school had organized a farewell for the 12th seniors. She went to attend that"
“Oh. Was there any difference in her mood that day?”
“No, it was normal"
“Describe normal”
“Grumpy, silent. You know how teenagers are like"
“Yeah, they can be a handful. Don’t worry , it normal in most families. She should be just hiding we'll find her for you”
Maithreyi silently nodded. She wouldn’t stop crying. I didn’t know if I could give a reason to stop. She kept muttering to herself. She looked mad. This was mad. I felt helpless
“Sir! I found something"
We all rushed to Ayat’s room. It was a video from an unknown number.Ayat in a dark room. Her head dumped in a bucket filled with water over and over and over again.
