It was a long day at work. Boring and frustrating as usual. A few million meetings. A few thousand servers that required fixing and updates. It was fun negotiating though. That was the best part of my work.
Even before I walked through the main door, I could hear them. Another typical day at home I thought. I could hear Maithreyi yelling and her mom telling her to calm down. It should be something about Ayat. I couldn’t hear her. Must be her way of rebelling by not talking again.
“She's not there. She’s not there either. I can’t find her. Where on earth is she? How could she do this to her own mother?”
“Calm down. Stop yelling and call the school again. Ask them if she got on the bus"
“She didn’t. Its her way of rebelling against me. Its because of that stupid Kindle I took from her. Why is she so childish?”
“Who’s not there?” I stopped right where I stood. My heart started beating rapidly in my chest.
“Ayat. I looked for her everywhere. She's been missing since her school ended. I called all her friends but they don’t know where she is. I called the school but they said she didn’t get on the bus. I don’t know where she is"
“Do you have your car?”
“Yes"
“Then, what are you standing there for? Get your car and let’s start looking for her. We can start in the community and then probably go to the park near market city”
“Should I call the cops?”
“No, she might be just hiding from us. She's an angst teenager. She’s probably just acting up because of her hormones"
Just like that we went around the entire. An hour passed and then two. Maithreyi started crying
“Its all my fault"
But not a tear escaped from my eyes. I was busy tearing down every nook and corner of the city and I could not quench my hunger until my daughter was found.
