Chapter II: The Veteran

".....girl you won't believed this, William.....The William Sinclair is planning to settle down here in Dallas"

"For real?, like OMG I'm going to die knowing William and I will going to breath the same air"

Did they just said William is planning to settle down here in Dallas?, how come they know that? I don't even know he will go here in US at first place. Let alone Dallas, Texas, it's just so odd for me he had a good career in UK why would he exchange that to take some risk in a foreign country?. And how come they know William?, not to be judgemental but they are clearly the type of girls who are more into music than podcasts. My eyebrows begin to raise as I turned my head on there direction, trying to read their expression and focusing what they are going to say more about William.

"Sophia, are you with us?" That's when I realized Mr. Ramirez calling my name about five times now, before I snapped out in my dreamland. I heard snickering of my classmate, did I start daydreaming in his class again?, I questioned myself as I take a look on my surroundings. Then I heard one of my classmate said.

"Probably she did not hear you. Ohh I forgot she is only mute not deaf" then she laughed.

Mr. Ramirez send her glare and mouthed something like 'that's a warning Miss Gomez', but she keep laughing with her friends. I felt Natalie crumble her fist ready to punch the girl who humiliate me. Mr. Ramirez sign to me to stand up and answer his question. Then I heard another snickering.

"Sir are you trying to humiliate her?, She can't speak and we don't know sig---"

"Shut up Miss Hathaway. I'm not humiliating her, Miss Brewer is the best student in this class. None of you can answer my question well, the way Miss Brewer answer me. Now, if you please Miss Brewer can you answer my question?. Should I repeat my question?"

I just nodded my head then Mr. Ramirez smiled at me and repeated his question which I eventually answered perfectly. I let out a sigh and take sit after I heard Mr. Ramirez saying correct. I sit down and looked at Natalie who only gave me reassuring smile, I looked at Roseline who give me a congratulating smile. Well, Mr. Ramirez is the only one who take me seriously and keep pushing me to answer in his class even I use sign language. The thing is, Mr. Ramirez take a lesson to learn sign language so I won't feel an out cast. But despite their kindness, I still can't trust them they're too good to be true. Our first class is over and I can still feel their eyes on my back, eyes showing disgusted and amusement. Sometimes, I heard whispering saying I shouldn't be here, the directors is out of their mind to accept me at first place. I just rolled my eyes and go with the flow of this agonizing day.

We separated after we put our books inside our locker, when I opened my locker I saw some letters inside it saying 'I'm a freak' 'You don't belong here' 'Burden of the society'. As if I'm going to get affect by it, I get used to it after receiving everyday letters from them. After all, they are jealous freaks. Natalie saw the content of the letters I found in my locker, and suggested they will tracked every single of them, but I said that will not be necessary and we shouldn't wasting our time to those jealous freaks. I keep walking in my next class, of course everyone still keep staring at me just like the first time I step my put in this institution, whispering about me is no longer strange for me. I just ignored it, if I cause scandal my reputation will be ruined. It looks like I will just bare with it.
