"Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay"

32. We're Not Together

"What does that mean?" I asked, fearing the answer.

The look in his eyes told me he didn't like his answer either. "That I might have to leave....and that our summer might be over."

I stood there, not really knowing what to say. He couldn't leave. What would become of the rest of our time here?

What would become of him and I?

We weren't on the best of terms currently. Would he just pack up and leave that way? Would he want to fix things? Would he just up and leave me?

"Shayley?"

"Huh?" I said, getting back to reality.

"You okay?" he asked, getting up to walk over to me.

"This isn't about me," I said.

"I think you should come with me."

I looked at Cathy, an eyebrow raised. "He should do what now?"

She shrugged. "I leave in a few days-"

Good riddance.

"-so you should just come with me. We'll just get you a ticket, and that way you can go back home to see your dad."

"Hold on," I told her. "He never said that he wanted to do that."

"I'm only helping him out with his decision," she defended.

"Sounds like you already made it for him," I pointed out.

Jacob sighed. "Girls, calm down."

"Come on Shayley, don't be selfish," she said.

"Selfish?!" I exclaimed. "Tell me Cathy, when do you plan on getting into his pants, during the flight or after you guys land?"

The nerve of this girl.

Jacob intervened once more. "Both of you, stop, please."

Cathy just smirked at me.

"Can I talk to Shayley alone?" he asked.

Her face fell. "But Jac-"

"Cathy, I need to talk to Shayley," he said. "Alone."

She huffed and got up, and I smiled triumphantly as she reluctantly got out of the room.

I turned to Jacob when she was gone. "Sorry, I should have kept my cool."

He sighed and then sat down on the bed, and I went and joined him.

"What do I do Shayley?"

"Do what you want to do," I said. "I know that doesn't help, but I can't decide something like that for you. This could be your chance to make things right with your father."

"If anybody needs to make anything right, it's him," Jacob scoffed. "He fucked up in the first place."

"Maybe this is his way," I said.

He sighed again, and then lay back onto the bed.

"What Cathy said..." I began. "Are you considering it?"
