Too Much To Ask

Lyndsey's POV:

My doorbell rang so I got up from my desk and walked to my front door. I unlocked my door and swung it open only to find Niall, dressed in a fancy suit and tie, so I immediately slammed it in his face. I smile and started to walk away when the doorbell rang again. I stopped in my tracks and slowly turned around. At first, I thought he would go away if I didn't do anything. I eventually saw that I was wrong because the doorbell rang again. I walked back over to the door and opened it. This time, Niall held a bouquet of flowers in his arms. I simply rolled my eyes and slammed the door again. Not long after, the doorbell rang again. I opened the door, revealing Niall, standing with a box of chocolates.

"Really?" I snarled as I slammed the door again.

I waited for a few seconds to see if he was gonna ring the doorbell again. There was nothing. The doorbell didn't ring again! I headed back to my office but stopped when I heard a guitar playing. I looked back and eventually heard Niall sing, "My shadow's dancing, without you for the first time, my heart is hoping, you'll walk right in tonight, tell me there are things that you regret, 'cause if I'm being honest I ain't over you yet."

I went over to the door and slowly opened the door.

"That's all I'm asking, is it too much to ask? Is it too much to ask?" Niall sang softly before stopping.

I didn't know what to do. Should I stay? Should I walk away? My mind was going back and forth but my heart told me to stay and hear what he had to say.

Niall set the guitar to the side and took a deep breath.

"Lyndsey," Niall started. "I know that I screwed things up. I should have never, no matter what the reason, texted Hailee. It was disrespectful to you and completely wrong."

"Niall," I began.

"Let me fix this," Niall interrupted. "I regret everything I have done since you threw me out this door. I admit to hooking up with a stranger and I know that I just added another reason to the list for things I have done to you but I have to lay everything out on the table. Nobody compares to you. You are the one person who I have truly loved and when I lost you, I lost myself. I know that I can't expect the best-case scenario to happen but I don't want to leave without telling you that I love you, Lyndsey. Because I do really love you and I don't want to lose you."

Niall began to cry. He tried to fight back his tears but he ended up losing. He glanced down at the ground before looking back up at me and saying, "Please say something."

"Niall, I can't forgive what you have done to me." I expressed.

Niall nodded and looked down at the ground. He wasn't happy with my answer and I knew that he was trying to accept and move past my answer.

"I understand."

"But," I added. "I am willing to forget about it so that we can move forward."

Niall's head shot up. He was so shocked. I tried not to smile but I couldn't hold back anymore.

"Is this a joke?"

I shook my head and walked out onto my front steps before jumping into Niall's arms. He squeezed me tight as he swung me around before setting me back on the ground. Our foreheads pressed up against each other's while we both gasped for air.

"Where do we go from here?" Niall asked.

I simply smiled.
