~~CLAY'S POV~~

Staring carefully at the duo as they talked, Clay inwardly sighed.

He just couldn't get around the fact that George was ok with this. George felt so different.

He had the same smile and the same voice but you could tell something was missing from him. The boy just felt a bit emptier than usual, and it was effecting Clay too now.

Shaking his head, the blond pushed open the door of the cafe, beckoning the two to come with him.

" I haven't tried Darryl's baking in a while!" Darby's french accented voice said rather loudly.

" Oh...yeah," George said indifferently.

" Clay, George! How have you two been doing, I haven't seen you for a hot second," Darryl started to say happily as he walked out of the kitchen.

He paused though as his eyes landed on Darby. The boy seemed frozen into place as he looked at the girl. Something close to fear could be seen brewing in Darryl's eyes.

Darby awkwardly waved before looking away. George gave the girl what looked to be a reassuring smile before running over to Darryl.

" Darryl are you okay?" The brunet said as he waved his hand in front of the boy's face.

Darryl stumbled back, his eyes not leaving Darby.

" I-I'm sorry-" Darryl choked out before running back into the kitchen.

Clay gave Darby a questioning look, wondering what she had done to make Darryl react like that.

The brunet gave a knowing sigh before looking back to them with a pained look.

" I don't think he forgot, Darby," George said softly as he ran back to the girl and gave her a hug.

Clay made a surprised sound at the action. Clay didn't know too much of George and Darby's relationship but it seemed they used to be close.

Returning the hug, the girl softly stroked the hair of the boy.

Pausing for a moment, he thought the girl had looked at him. Looking back at the red-head he bit his lower lip to see the girl still staring at George.

Clay rubbed his temples. What was wrong with him? There was nothing suspicious about Darby, so why was he feeling this way about her?

The boy shook his head as pointed to the cafe door.

" I think it's for the best if we leave now," The blond said as he grabbed George's hand as he made his way to the door.

George lightly exhaled as he squeezed Clay's hand.

" Do you know a good ice cream place around here then?" Darby said as she caught up with the couple.

" Yeah there's one a few blocks away," Clay murmured.

It didn't take long for the trio to reach the place and get their frozen treats, the mood once again helped along by Darby.

" Remember Kathy, George? Well, I heard that-" Clay paused though, the girl's voice becoming white noise.

The world seemed to blur around him as he stared wide-eyed a man.

Clay knew that man all too well. From his golden eyes and perfect grin. He used to admire him to the highest degree.

Noah Carpenter.
