The bus stops with a halt in front of my university and I climb out only to be welcomed by the fresh air of the day. The brown building in front of me is huge! I’ve only seen the campus in pictures and videos but this is nothing compared to what it looks like on there. The huge horizontal building has six blocks which are spread over a wide area. The driver hands me my suitcase from the back of the bus and sits back in. The bus leaves and I’m just standing in front of the building with my eyes wide open.
“Breathe Aury” I tell myself while, I gather myself up and make my way towards the entrance of the main building in front of me. The building on the inside is as beautiful as it is on the outside. There are flags hanging on the higher walls of the building which symbolises the wide diversity of students this university has and the name of the university written in big bold golden letters is embossed on the wall opposite from the entrance. The main building is where all the staff and administrators sit. It has four floors and each floor is assigned to a separate department. The ground level where I am right now has the registrar on one side and the cashiers on the other. The auditorium is also on the ground level, towards the end of the registrar.
A lady in her 40s probably, wearing a black pencil skirt and a red blouse approaches me with some flyers. Her name tag pinned to her blouse reads ‘Mrs. Mary Ambers’
“May I help you dear?” she asks in a very chirpy voice and it makes me nauseous as to how chirpy she is, it’s probably the long ride that makes me so irritated.
“Yes hi, could you please tell me where dorm 436 is?” I smile as she hands me some flyers about the courses in the university.
“Are you newly enrolled?” her tone has suddenly changed from chirpy to interrogative.
“Yes” I nod my head while fidgeting with the handle of my suitcase.
“Has your fees been paid, your subjects selected and password been assigned to you?” she interrogates further and I’m kinda scared by how her voice has changed and become more scary.
“Yes” I nod again and don’t look straight into her eyes.
"Do you have a student ID" she asks me and I nod a no.
"Very well then we will issue you one later" she says, adjusing her glasses.
A girl who looks about my age wearing a pink mini skirt which is way above her knees, a tight black tank top and pink heels walks into the main building with her eyes glued to her phone and Miss Mary calls for her.
“Liya” she screams out to the empty space and she immediately turns to walk towards us with a huge smile on her face.
“Good Afternoon Miss Ambers, what can I do for you?” her voice is loud and she has an accent which makes her seem a lot more confident. She doesn’t seem to me as a student but more an employee or probably an intern in the university but ah well who am I to say?
“I want you to take this young lady to dorm number 436 and stick these flyers on the notice board of every building.” She chirps and I’m actually surprised to hear as to how fast she changes from chirpy to interrogative to chirpy again.
“No problem, I’m on it” Liya says while taking the flyers from her.
“Is that all?” She asks Mrs. Mary and I think I sense the sarcasm in her voice very evidently.
“Yes that will be all” Mrs. Mary says and walks towards her receptionist desk, leaving us two to acquaint.
She looks at me up and down, puts on a huge smile again and moves her hand forward to shake mine.
