"What a coinkydink!" Jay says strolling nonchalantly up the driveway to where Hawks is standing, their eyes never leaving you. "If it isn't my partner in crime-"

"Ex..." You say loud and clear, glaring back at them so they understand to stay away from you. "Can we help you?"

The men in black look at Hawks, staying by the car doors, their hands causiously close to their belts. Were they armed?

"Yes you can help us, my sweet," You grimace to the sickly sweetness in Jay's voice. "We're taking our little bird back to work." Stitching a smile across their face. You cross your arms, straightening your back and scowl at him.

"We're in high school." You state, "We're not supposed to be working, what do you really want?"

"Oh my bad." Jay says, wrapping an arm around Hawks' shoulder, who you see pull an uncomfortable smile at you. The colour slowly draining from his face. "Did I say work? I meant it as we have family stuff to do!"

"Cut the crap, Mocking Jay." You snarl, striding over to them on your drive, you see the other men move closer, their hands grasping something concealed on their belts.

"Feisty, I love it!" Jay lunges forward, grabbing your chin and pulling your face up close to their's - too close. You jab his jaw, forcing him backwards. The men in black move in closer. "Fella's it's ok." They spit out a clump of mucus and blood to the floor. You didn't punch them that hard. "Always the angry bitch, I see."

"That's enough, Lyre." You turn to Hawks' sudden reaction, as he grabs Jay by the wrist stopping him from approaching. Jay smirks, making a double take at you and Hawks. "I see..." Jay chuckles softly. They turn back to Hawks whispering something into his ear that causes him to go white in the face. "We'll be waiting- oh and don't be late this time."

As soon as they arrived they left. You gaze up at Hawks, his face pale. What did they say to him? You head over to him and hold his hands. Gripping tightly giving a reassuring squeeze.

"You ok?" You ask.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He forces a smile squeezing your hands back. "So...you and Jay?"

You feel your heart drop into the pit of your stomach, you say quickly. "It took me a while to realise it but, they're manipulative and controlling and it was lonely being with them and... just so complicated- but that's all in the past now. At least I thought it was..."

You feel his thumb stroke your cheek, wiping away a tear that you didn't realise had escaped your eye. You smile at him, as he continues to wipe away the tears, you couldn't help but let the tears fall slowly. They're is not worth crying about...

"I can't believe you two are family." You say jokingly, inhaling heavily to clear your airways, you catch a hint of his scent relaxing you. "I mean you're so sweet and he's such a sour twat."

You see a smile crack through bringing the colour back to his face and a small breathy laugh exit his lips. "It's complicated..."

You sigh. You didn't want to pry more than you should. You lean into his touch, his hand was so big compared to yours and they felt so warm. On closer inspection, you can see calluses on his palms and fingertips. Instinctively, you kiss the palm of his hand, thinking how hard he must have been working to have all this. Realising what you're doing, you pull yourself back. "I-I'm so sorry!" You stammer, your cheeks flushing bright pink, your hair mimicking the embarrassment.

"Oh-er-It's fine..." Hawks chirps, rubbing the back of his neck as he backs up to the pavement, his ears burning. "I-er- should get going."

"Yeah, of course."
