Chapter 5 - Showing Hearts

One week later...

Since me and Ichiro spoke last week, I've been planning my confession to Kanata and I'm going to execute it today. I got up early today and brought ingredients to the cooking classroom. I plan to confess when she comes by after her practice and I asked her to come by without anybody today. I want to show her a part of myself to her through my cooking so I'm going to make my favorite dessert. It's easy to make, but it takes a while to set completely so I had to get up even earlier than usual so that I could get it going. I'll come back after class for the final part but that doesn't take long. Once I got there, I put some cream in a saucepan, put it over heat, and poured sugar and vanilla into it. I kept stirring until the sugar had dissolved. I then put in a gelatin sheet and stirred some more until that dissolved. I bought two shaped molds for this and poured the cream into them before putting both molds into the fridge. Since I was done, I headed back to the dorm and had the breakfast I had skipped.

That afternoon I returned to the cooking classroom. I set up a pot with a small amount of water in it and while I waited for the water to get to the point of simmering, I zested and juiced a couple of lemons. Once the water was simmering, I put a bowl on top and put in the juice, some of the lemon zest, sugar, and a little bit of salt in and began to whisk it constantly. Once it had thickened up, I took the bowl off and put six slices of butter into it and whisked it in until I melted completely in. I now had my lemon curd and I poured it into a bowl and put it into the fridge and sat down while waiting for Kanata to arrive.

At some point I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew, I was being gently woken up by Kanata.

I yawned and said "Oh, hey Kanata. I asked you to come by because I wanted to give you a try of my favorite dessert. I only invited you because I was given some molds that I want to try but I was only given two."

She gave a warm and gentle smile and said "That sounds lovely. I can't wait."

I got up and pulled out the dessert and moved them from the mold onto the plate. I then pulled out my lemon curd and poured some on top. What I had made was a panna cotta. It was a white dessert that due to the mold was shaped like a heart and had an even yellow layer of lemon curd on top.

I placed the plate in front of her and explained "This is panna cotta. It's an italian dessert that is sweetened cream that is thickened with gelatin to a texture between gelatin and pudding and with some sort of berry sauce or other topping. Strawberry is the most popular but I like the tartness that the lemon curd adds, plus it was in season."

"It looks really good. Itadakimasu." Kanata said before grabbing her spoon and taking a bite. As she swallowed, she smiled and said "This is fantastic. It's really light and refreshing."

"Thanks, it's actually my favorite because of that and because there is so many ways to change it up. Another way that is pretty good is to melt white chocolate into the cream and serve it on it's own." I responded

We ate and talked for a bit as we walked to the entrance to the school. As she was about to leave, I realized that I had completely forgotten that I was gonna confess.

"I have to go now. I'll see you tomorrow y/n." Kanata said as she waved and began to walk away.

"Wait." I sputtered out. "I uh still have one last thing to tell you."

Kanata stopped and said "Well what is it?"

I came up to her and pulled her into a hug as I said "Kanata, I'm in love with you and I have been since we first met. Will you please go out with me?"

Kanata looked surprised for a second but then smiled at me and said "I love you too. I'd love to go out with you." She then gave me a kiss on the lips and said "I still have to get home to Haruka but how about we go on a date this weekend?"

"That sounds great. Let's decide what we're gonna do after your practice tomorrow."

She then left and I headed back to the dorms with a stupid grin on my face. Ichiro ran into me in the hall and asked what was up and I told him about what happened and he had only congratulations.

A/n: So you know how I announced earlier that I probably wouldn't have it finished tonight? Turns out I was wrong. I'll write the date chapter tomorrow and publish it right after. On a mostly unrelated note, I'm starting to crave some lemon custard.
