"You were probably just seeing things from fear" jack protested as we walked to school the next day.

"No that was my mother I know it" I argued. He sighed and stopped walking. I turned and looked back at him.

"April what if this all leads no where? What if your mother and brother really are dead? What then?" He asked with a look of concern on his face.

"I can't explain it but I just know they are alive and I'm willing to do anything to find them with or without your help. So are you still coming over to check what's in the chest?" I ask as I continue to walk.

"Of course I'll be there April you know I won't let you do this alone" Jack told me. We nodded then entered the school.

Jack ran over to me in the woods after school. "Ready to go?" I asked.

"Yeah sorry I was late I had to talk to mr Richards about the essay in English." Jack laughed. We walked home guessing what we thought will be in the chest.

"I think it's another clue my mom wouldn't make it that easy for me" I said.

"Well I think it's a map to find her or maybe it's another key or-" Jack started.

"Shush my aunt might hear you" I warned as we approached the house. "We are home!" I shouted as we walked in.

"Alright I'm in the bakery if you need anything" aunt Lou replied. With that we rushed up to my room. I pulled the black bag out of my closet and dumped the chest onto my bed. I took the key out of my desk where I hid it. Jack carefully placed the chest on my desk as I sat down with the key.

"Come on open it already the suspense is killing me" Jack cheered.

"Okay okay calm down" I laughed. I stick the key in and turn it to hear a click. The top carefully opens up to reveal the items inside. We start to look through the items.

"A picture of our family before my dad was put in jail" I sigh showing Jack.

"What does that have to do with your mother?" Jack asked.

"Maybe my dad knows what happened to her." I suggest. Next I pull out a bracelet.

"What's that?" He questioned.

"My mother used to wear it all the time when she was younger." I say wondering why it was in the chest. I set the bracelet next to the photo on my desk. Then I found the last item. A note.

"To my dear darling daughter,
I hope this letter finds you well. If you are reading this it means I am no longer with you and we were separated. You need to hold onto hope and keep your curiosity. I have wanted great things for you since you were my genius little girl but I unfortunately can't give you those things. Be careful who you trust and keep looking I'll be waiting for you when your ready." I read. Jack and I looked at each other.

"Do you really think she wrote that do you think she's still out there?" Jack asked.

"It's my mother of course she's still out there." I state.

"Well then where do we go from here?" He asked.
