"So how did it go?" Jack asked as he ran to meet up with me in the forest to walk to school on the brisk morning.
"I think I might have gotten another clue but he seemed to not know much." I explain disappointed that I didn't get the information I wanted.
"Well what clue did you get?" He asked curious as to what my dad knows.
"He told me to say hello to aunt Lou for him. But he was in prison before I went to stay with her and there was no way for him to know I'm living with her" I tell the brown haired boy walking next to me.
"Maybe your aunt went to visit him before." Jack suggested with a simple shrug.
"No she spends all of her time at home in the bakery or at her book club." I stop walking to think for a moment. "Have you ever heard about a book club in this town?" I ask him. He shakes his head no. I nod and write it down in my book.
"What are you writing." He asked looking over my shoulder.
"My aunt goes to a book club every Wednesday but If there is no book club where does she go?" I ask suspiciously.
"I'm guessing your going to find out." Jack sighs. People stare at us as we arrive at the school. Groups of people looking over and whispering.
"What do you think is going on?" I ask.
"Who knows with this town." Jack shrugs.
"My mom said April went to visit her father in jail." A girl whispers to her friend. I look back at them as I hear it.
"How do they know?" I ask running to catch up to jack.
"How do they know what?" He questions confused as to what I'm talking about.
"Those girls they knew I visited my dad but how?"
"Wait what girls we just got here nobody else has talked to either of us" he says.
"No no I heard them over there say something about my father" I claim.
"Maybe you heard wrong." Jack suggests as we walk into class. All day I can't focus because I hear whispers and Rummers about me visiting my father.
"Did somebody miss their family so much they had to visit their criminal father. For a smart girl that was a stupid idea. Are you gonna follow his footsteps and become a criminal. You know like father like daughter. Your such a freak!" A boy yells at me at the end of the day. I stand in shock at the words spit in my face.
"Hey don't talk to her like that." Jack says sternly as he steps in front of me.
"What are you gonna do about it?" The snobby boy asked.
"Come on let's go." Jack says as he grabs my hand and pulls me away. "Don't listen to him okay?" The brown haired boy said as he suddenly stopped in the woods. I nod my head gently. We walked in silence the rest of the way home the only sound coming from the leaves crunching under our feet.
