ZAREENA
'NO, no, no, no No!!' Zareena muttered as she walked home from school. 'This can't be happening. I must be dreaming. Yeah, this is just a big, bad dream.'
But, she knew that this was real. Her imagination couldn't go into that much detail. Today was....bizarre in a very bad way. James couldn't possibly exist. Somebody like James couldn't be alive. He defects whatever laws in human nature! But, he was real and alive. It was Zareena; she couldn't wrap her head around it. How could she? She can't even say his name without choking herself. And how can she be with a person who is very much like....him?
'That moron is always behind me!' she screamed, not caring who was watching and what they might think 'He's following me like my tail! He's in every, stupid class. Can't the world just give me a break?! What did I do to punish me like this? Ouch...my hand is hurting!!'
It wasn't her hand that was in pain though. It was her heart. After....that day....it felt like someone had punched a hole in her heart- a big, unending hole- and had set it on fire. And James being so....so similar to.... She was interrupted by her aunt coming with an apron tied around the waist. She was so engulfed in her thoughts that she didn't even remember reaching home let alone opening the door.
'You came!' her aunt, Julie, said hugging her. 'How was first day of school?'
'Fine.'
'What's wrong?'
'How does she do that?' Zareena thought.
'Nothing's wrong.' She said annoyed and she didn't have it in her to explain what happened in school. 'School is great, the teachers are great, and everything is fine.'
She started to leave to her room but her aunt seems to be unsatisfied with her answer.
'If everything was so great, why is your arm bleeding?'
'My bottle broke and my palm got cut by accident.' She turned her back to her aunt so she couldn't see her face.
'Not your palm, I said arm Maria!'
'Would you please stop it?' Zareena snapped. 'Maria is dead. She is buried six feet under. I am ZAREENA! Maria doesn't exist anymore okay???'
Zareena ran up to her room. She collapsed on her bed and looked at her left arm. The blood had soaked the jacket sleeve until the black fabric was now a faint brown. She had a hard time handling her emotions, even in the past. Now, it was next to impossible. James was exactly like....him. Every single thing about James reminded her of him. His hazel eyes that carried an unusual brightness, brown hair that cannot be pattered down, lips, so red, set on a permanent smile, long fingers, his swimmer built body that towered over her a good feet....she could go on and on and on. Even his attitudes were the same.
Zareena couldn't stand it. She needed to distract herself or else only God knew what'll happen to her. So, after school was over, she went to the girls washroom and took a blade from her jean pocket. She really hated doing this. But, seeing her blood flowing and the pain that followed eased her running thoughts. It managed to ease ache of the constant burn of the hole. It didn't stop the burn though. The blazing inferno was temporarily reduced to a splinter. It eventually burns up again somehow.
It had been months, that she began to carve on her body, it was now like a drug to her; with every dose she takes she couldn't help but want more. She cut a straight line in the back of her arm. It was deep and immediately blood started to ooze out. The crimson color was so fascinating. It was breath-taking. But the pain wasnt enough. She drew another line parallel to the first and cut small lines intersecting the two long ones. It was enough. Her head started to feel woozy. The pain was unbearable but it was, in a way, soothing. That was the only thing in her mind; pain. Soothing pain. Zareena watched as the blood slither down from her hand, curling from here fingers and fall into the sink from her fingertips, creating beautiful designs but, two girls from her class came in, disturbing her from her concentration. She hastily rolled down her sleeve and washed the blood away from the sink. She hoped the girls didnt see anything. And before they could find something odd, she slithered away. Two steps out of the door, she heard a scream from inside.
