I saw 12's head shoot up in response to a 'hello' that seemed to come from this little girl standing creepily in the hall. I was confused by this since one of the children were scared, yet this one seemed much calmer... A bit too calm. 12 raised her firearm in response, as I slowly started to take a few steps towards the eerie girl.
12 put her hand out in front of me. "What do you think you're doing?" She asked me in a whisper, obviously not wanting me to go anywhere near this girl. Which is understandable.
"I was just going to see if she's alright" I whisper back. "I'll be fine" I slowly walk over to her, 12 on my 6, ready to shoot. The girl came out of the shadows as I got closer. This was no girl, this was a zombie. I grab my Thompson as the girl came rushing towards me. 12 and I both fired, I was the first to kill, point-blank. I felt bad, but I did what I had to do. So did 12.
I turn around to look at 12, putting her Casull back in her holster. I put my gun back around my back, walking towards 12. "And that's how it's done," I say unenthusiastically, sighing to myself. It's one thing to kill a zombie, and another to kill a child zombie. But I guess I just have to get used to it. We are living in a zombie apocalypse, after all.
"We should hurry and get these supplies, the faster we gather supplies, the faster we get out," 12 said, nodding towards the hall. I nodded in agreement and followed her, gathering papers, first aid kits, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.
Once we were finished looking around the daycare and collecting all the supplies we could, we headed out of there. We didn't want to encounter any more zombie children. As we were walking, I began to hum a little bit, trying to get my mind off of everything. As well as break the silence.
"Whatcha humming?" 12 asks me while carrying the bag of supplies, swaying it in her hand.
I looked at her and fell into a giggle fit as I began to sing what I was humming.
"K- Krusty Krab pizza, i- is the pizza for you and me-" I stuttered, struggling to sing as I continued to laugh. 12 chuckled and sang with me.
"Krusty Krab pizza is the pizza, free delivery!" She sang.
"Krusty Krab pizza is the pizza, very tastyyy!"
"Krusty Krab pizza, p-p-p-pizza, Do-do-chun-chun-chi-chi pizza, Do do ba ba ba da, Do do do do pizza do do do do do do pizza, Do do do do do do"
12 began to wheeze as I did what I think is the best part of the whole song.
"Krusty-Kra-a-aa-yaaa yeah-yeah-ya-yab Pizza! Is the pizza yeah for you and... Me-hee-hee-hee-yee!" I sang, pretty well in my opinion, and we both fell into laughing fits. I'm glad we get to laugh, even during a time like this. It's not often we find things during this day in age funny. Especially not with the weight of the apocalypse and possibly saving the world on our shoulders.
"Oh my god, you hit those notes perfectly!" 12 complimented, wiping the tears from her eyes from all the laughter. I smiled and thanked her as I continued to giggle. Once we got back to my shop, 12 and I had almost finished singing the Scooby-Doo theme song. We love some good throwback songs.
"Scooby-Dooby-Doo, here are you. You're ready and you're willing. If we can count on you, Scooby-Doo, I know we'll catch that villain!" We sang in unison, putting our arms up in the air. Phelix and James were confused, to say the least.
"What was that..?" Phelix asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That, my friend, was Scooby-Doo" 12 stated matter-of-factly.
"And as you can tell, we're professional singers" I joked with a chuckle, getting a few laughs from the two boys.
"So, I'm guessing it went well since you seem to be pretty happy" Phelix added with a smile.
Since I was holding the bag at this point, I handed it to the boys so they can see what we managed to get. "Well, we had to uhm.. shoot down some younger zombies," I started in a quiet tone. "But we did manage to get cleaning supplies, papers, toilet paper, two first-aid kits, a box cutter, and some yarn" I explained.
James raised his brow. "Why'd you get yarn?" he questioned.
"Well, it can be used for a number of things. Like connecting lines on a brainstorming board, cutting certain objects, tieing up zombies, or people.. And probably a lot more" 12 said, to which I nodded.
"And if you're wondering why we would need to tie up a zombie.." 12 and I look at each other and both say, "Experimentation" James nodded and continued looking through the bag.
"So, how'd the guarding go? Was there any trouble?" I ask with a smile. Though, the boys had an awkward look on their faces, guilty, even.
"Hey, what happened?" 12 asked, but all they did was look inside the flower shop. That made me pretty anxious and look inside my flower shop. Two of my flower pots, holding tulips and lilies, were broken. I didn't feel like freaking out over anything, so I just sighed and looked at the boys in disapproval. Apparently, they were expecting a different reaction, because they sighed in relief.
"13, what happened?" 12 asked.
"That's what I'd like to know" I crossed my arms like a mom would, wanting an explanation. 12 looked inside the shop and shook her head.
"Well, a few zombies came and we shot them down, but a few of them snuck by into your shop, and we accidentally misfired a few bullets..." Phelix explained.
"Well, are you two alright?" I asked them, not really caring about the flowers at that point, receiving a nod from both Phelix and James. I nodded and sighed a little, grabbing the bag off the floor.
"Let's head in, shall we?"
