I’m not sure of much. I know my first name is Violet... okay, I don’t actually know that, but I think it is my name. I have dirty blonde hair and violet eyes with fair skin and an occasional freckle spotting my nose and cheeks.

I had an accident last month where my parents died, or so I was told by my nurse. I was physically unscathed, but had been knocked unconscious by the car crash resulting in me losing parts of my memory. I just got out of the hospital recently and I am expected to start going to school at Forks high school for my Senior year.

With my parents dead, I had been loaned their house, but it really doesn’t feel like home. I don’t remember this house, so I don’t feel like I can call it home. Since I am eighteen, I have been allowed to live by myself, but ever since the accident, I have been visited by the some of the nurses that had kept me company in the hospital who tried to help me get by. They were searching for any direct family, and me not being able to remember much wasn’t very helpful. Maybe I had living relatives or maybe not.

My first day at my new high school is very uneventful. I don’t talk to anyone and not many people try to talk to me. I go out for lunch because I know that it will be very uncomfortable for me to sit at a table by myself. When the day ends, I arrive to the tiny house and notice two cars in front of my house. Was someone visiting?

The first car was a forest green Chevy and the other was a police car.  Maybe someone was being pulled over. I park in my driveway and realize the door is unlocked. I locked it this morning. Is someone trying to rob me?

I enter the house and notice two men in the living room. One of the men is short and hunched over, “I apologize for intruding, Miss Swan.”

“Is that my last name?” I ask.

“We found one of your relatives who is willing to take you in considering the fact that your parents are not here to take care of you - Charlie Swan, the police chief of Forks.”

The other man has dark brown hair and a bushy mustache looks very out of place in this conversation, I suppose he isn’t very talkative, “Hello, Violet.”

The man leave a few minutes later after having Charlie sign some papers. He awkwardly offers to help me get my things for the move. Most of my stuff still isn’t even unpacked so we bring out my packed suitcases to his police cruiser. Once the back seat is filled and I occupy the passenger seat, we drive to his house.

“Do you remember your step-sister Bella?”

I shake my head, “Is she in college?”

“No, she is a Senior. You guys will be sharing a room.”

I nod, “Is Bella home?”

“No, you can meet her later. She usually stays at her boyfriend’s house. She only moved here a year ago, maybe she can introduce you to some of her friends.”

The car’s purring ceases as we pull up in front of a two-story house surrounded by greenery - the usual for Forks. He begins to take some suitcases and bring them into the house. I grab one and follow him upstairs to the room I will be sharing. I wonder if Bella knows I will be here. I try to remember what she is like, but I can’t even place a face to the name.

Once all my things are upstairs I begin to unpack. Charlie tells me I can use the closet for my clothes, and the bathroom is across the hall before leaving me alone. I open the closet to find it completely empty, does Bella even know this exists? I begin to hang up my blouses and jackets. The majority of my first suitcase’s contents are clothes. What can I say? - I’m a girl.

My second suitcase has some shoes and the rest of the items are basic cosmetics and toiletries. The third suitcase contains books and other personal items. I place the books in alphabetical order on the nightstand that is next to my cot. I put the third suitcase under the cot and conceal the under part of it with the plum bed sheet. I look around the room noticing Bella has a lot of books. Maybe she is a bookworm. Maybe she is quiet and shy like Charlie.

I hear a car pull up in front of the house, I look out the window to see a silver volvo. There is a slender man with bronze hair that looks up in the window catching sight of me. Is that Bella’s boyfriend? I decide I’ll go meet Bella. I go downstairs, the doorbell rings as soon as I reach the kitchen. Charlie opens the door and says, “Bella, you remember, Violet, don’t you?”

“Wasn’t she living with Phil?” Bella asks.

“Yes, there was an accident, but she is alright. With the exception of some memory loss. She is going to be staying with us,” He explains.

“Edward, do you want to...?”

“I’ll stay,” I hear a musical voice answer.

“Violet?” Charlie calls.

I enter from the kitchen and spot a girl with long chocolate brown hair, doe-like brown eyes and a fair complexion. The boy next to her is only taller than her by a few inches, he has styled bronze hair and unusual golden eyes. Bella and Edward.

“Hi, Bella,” I greet.

“Hi,” She greets shyly. I was right.

“Hello, I’m Edward,” The boy greets extending his hand. Upon shaking it I see something that startles me. I get a flash of a boy lying in a hospital ward and he looks like Edward, but with flushed skin and green eyes that he is fighting to keep open.

Edward’s golden eyes stare at me curiously after the handshake. I didn’t even know what that was. Maybe it was a dream I had, but forgot. Maybe some memories were coming back to me.

“Violet, did you hear me?” Bella asks.

“What?”

“I asked about you classes, maybe we have some classes together. Edward and his adopted sister, Alice, are Seniors too,” She says.

“I have my schedule here,” I hand her the piece of paper from the coffee table.

“We have calculus  and lunch together,” She says.

Edward looks at the tiny yellow slip and says, “We have only lunch together, but you have English, lunch and gym with Alice.”

After an hour, Edward leaves and while Bella is in the shower I take my diary out of my suitcase under the cot. At the hospital, I was told to start the diary to help strengthen my memory to prevent more memory loss and I continue to write in it out of habit.

Diary,

Once of the strangest things happened today. I might be getting some of my memory back or I might be going insane. I’m not really sure what is happening. I met my step-sister, Bella, and her boyfriend, Edward. When I shook Edward’s hand I saw this weird... flash. I honestly don’t know what to call it. A vision? A scene? A memory? A dream? Whatever it was, it was very unusual. Could it be a good sign?

In the... dream, Edward - who is had a chalky complexion and golden eyes - had a flushed face and emerald irises. He was in this hospital ward and looked like he was dying. What could it mean?

Violet

Once I cannot hear the patter of the shower water hitting the tile, I close the journal and put it back in its hiding place. Bella enters the room in sweatpants and a baggy shirt and opens the book ‘Wuthering Heights’. I decide I’ll go take a shower after this eventful day, maybe tomorrow will make more sense.
