Jasper and I spent that evening practicing. I was encouraged by my constant failures, every time he was able to pin me to the ground, I waited for the second he released me to bound back up for another round. All my worries were gone until I heard the sound of a car engine. I let Jasper tackle me to the ground the second my face went blank.
“Violet?” He asks when I am limp, refusing to move.
“Alice,” I rush to the front of the house the second I speak. I only catch a glimpse of the car lights driving away from the house. “She’s gone.”
“She wouldn’t leave without a word to the others,” Jasper insists, putting a hand on my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me.
We walk inside to catch Rosalie, Esme, and Emmett lounging on the couch and Carlisle reading a book. “What did Alice say?”
“She said she was going for a little while. She said she would return,” Carlisle explains. “She has the free will to make her own choices.”
“Did she say why she was leaving?”
“No,” Esme answers. “She just said it was important.”
“She said she left a note for each of you since you guys were busy,” Rosalie chimes. “She didn’t want to interrupt.”
I race up to my room to find a small paper on my bed. It looks like it was torn out of a book and as I pick up the paper I see the words ‘Twelfth Night’ printed, I flip over the paper:
Violet,
I am really sorry that I had to leave. I had a vision of your vision before and I am not leaving because of the Volturi. Beware. They will be here when the first snow sticks to the ground, but for an entire different matter. They will see you and you must deal with them. You might have noticed that I tore this page out of a book of yours. The book is the reason I am leaving... more so a theme in the book that is in your life as well as mine. I want you to be happy, I am. This really is for the best, and I hope you will see this opportunity that I have presented you with. Please help Jasper. He isn’t as strong as he seems.
-Alice
My mind rushes trying to decode her message. A theme? What does she mean? Did she know? I had tried to hide my feels for Jasper. Did she feel threatened? No. She left. Maybe she doesn’t know, but what does she mean by opportunity?
Does she want me to be with Jasper? Isn’t he her mate? Does she want him to cheat!
I tell myself to relax, and I take three deep breaths. I have to talk to Jasper and she what she wrote him, maybe then my letter will make some sense. I bring out my diary that I have wrote in and decide to make a new entry:
Diary,
I know that since I have become a vampire I haven’t written much, but I have some pretty confusing news. Today, Alice left after an extremely weird vision that she refuses to tell us about. I’ve been worry that she might know about my... feelings for Jasper. She wrote both of us letter since he had been helping me fight when she left. She told me she presented me with an opportunity. What does she mean? Does she want Jasper to cheat on her with me? Some weird love triangle? She said it was a theme in the book Twelfth Night.
