▬▬▬▬▬ CHAPTER TEN ▬▬▬▬▬

DAY ONE

CEDRIC DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL it was too late, but asking Esmerelda to train him was the worst decision he had ever made.

His Saturday morning started out pretty simple, but it would soon go downhill:

First, he woke up early (as per Esmerelda's instructions) and had breakfast. It consisted of waffles topped with blueberries, strawberries, and a decent serving of whipped cream. As for a beverage, he settled with some strawberry milk.

Esmerelda entered the Great Hall and grimaced at the amount of waffles piled high on plate. "Oh man, Ced, if I were you, I'd eat light."

He swallowed down his food before asking her, "Light?"

She nodded and plopped down beside him. "Yep. Trust me, if you eat too much, you'll only end up throwing up your breakfast halfway through the workout." She said as she slid some eggs on her plate and a few slices of bread.

"Oh..." He said, then forgoe two waffles in order to have a lighter meal. He never really had to eat light before for Quidditch practice, so he wondered what exactly she had in store for him. What sort of training was she going to put him through?

After they both finished their breakfast, she led him outside of the castle. He was immediately met by the chilly winds. The sun was being hidden behind the clouds since it was still early in the morning—barely even seven o'clock.

"Over here is perfect," Esmerelda said brightly, standing before the Great Lake.

He looked around, unsure. The Great Lake was glittering darkly, and the cold weather had certainly made it's water temperature freezing. Around it was a thin layer of snow. He had no clue what exactly was 'perfect' about any of this.

"Er, so what do you want me to do?" He asked.

She gave him a beaming smile. "I want you to run around the Great Lake."

His jaw dropped. "You want me to what?" He spluttered.

"I want you to run around the Great Lake," she repeated, her smile never wavering. "I'll have you do... hmm, how about we start off with five laps? Yeah, that sounds pretty easy!"

"It certainly is not easy!" He exclaimed incredulously. "Have you gone mad? Five laps around the Lake... that's got to be five kilometers or something!"

"You can do it!" Esmerelda said encouragingly, which didn't comfort him at all.

"But—but why?" He asked despairingly.

She shot him a look of amusement. "You don't think you're just going to be standing there while facing a dragon, do you? If you don't move around, you'll get killed immediately. It's best that you're quick on your feet. Plus, running enhances your stamina and endurance. You'll need a lot of that for the First Task. Either way—dragon or no dragon—this will be beneficial for you."
