The days that followed seemed to happen in a blur. Assignments and readings were piling on by the day, and I was growing anxious about whether or not I'd be able to complete them all in time. Fortunately, since I'd gotten an early start on my Potions readings over the weekend, I'd managed to finish the paper before it was due. All that remained were a couple of chapters for Divination and the Charms paper, of course.
The rush that accompanied the first few weeks of autumn term always befuddled me. The transition from summer holidays back to Hogwarts never failed to cause me great unease, as I was impatient to finish all my assignments on time. Although I felt a sense of relief after completing each task, I was still all over the place. Meeting Draco at the library was the last thing on my mind. Besides, he'd never specified which day of the week, and I was too preoccupied with my thoughts to notice that he'd never attended Transfiguration at all the past few days. I was starting to think that he'd forgotten about our plans altogether until I walked out of class and spotted him in the hallway.
He was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. His platinum blonde hair glowed underneath the light that shone through the open corridors. His bone structure clearly defined as he looked to his left. He scanned the halls, glaring at the students passing by. When I entered the corridor, I could've sworn his face lit up at the sight of me, but it couldn't be. I was probably delusional under all this stress.
I had half a mind to completely ignore him and walk away, but he'd already seen me and would've probably caused a scene had I done so. Begrudgingly, I walked towards him while weaving through the sea of students rushing to get to their next classes. Just as I thought I'd made it through, a Gryffindor first-year slammed into me, causing all my books and papers to fling out of my hands. I let out a groan. This is just what I needed, I thought.
"Watch where you're going, you little fuck," Draco snapped, uncrossing his arms. "If I so much as see you in these halls again, I'll beat the shit out of you."
The first-year looked at him with wide eyes, frozen in fear.
"Draco, it's fine," I muttered. I'd caused quite the traffic jam in the middle of the hallway. Students walked around me while I was on my knees picking up my textbooks and scattered papers.
"No," Draco spat. "It's not. Now are you gonna apologize to her or not?"
"S-sorry," the boy squeaked. His eyes darted between me and Draco, unsure of what to do next.
"Don't worry about it," I smiled. Though he'd caused some inconvenience, I still felt bad that he'd crossed paths with Draco.
"What are you doing still standing there?" Draco threatened. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"
Shaken, the boy nodded frantically and sped off in the opposite direction.
"You didn't have to do that, you know," I sighed, still picking up the last few scraps of paper on the floor. Draco resumed his position again, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. He looked down at me with an impatient expression as I struggled to stand up. "No, by all means, don't strain yourself," I reassured sarcastically. "I don't need any help."
"Yeah, didn't think you did," he remarked, scanning the halls again.
What was once a hallway teeming with students was now void of them. A couple of Ravenclaw girls strolled by arm in arm and both stared in Draco's direction as they passed by us. He shot them a coquettish grin, which only sent them into a flurry of giggles. Disgusting.
I'd managed to organize all my papers and stuffed what I could into my book bag before turning to face Draco. He was still ogling at the pair as they sauntered off into the distance.
"Hey," I hissed. "Take a good look, you pig? Are we spending free period gawking at girls and stroking our egos? Or are we working on this paper?"
He chuckled. "Jealousy doesn't look good on you, Y/N."
"I'm not jealous." I tried my best to sound convincing, but even I could tell my tone was off.
"Didn't know it was a crime to look," he scoffed. "When I see something I like, I want it."
"That's a little barbaric, don't you think? Talking about girls like they're just objects to you?"
"Well, aren't they?" He towered over me, but bent down slightly so that his face was only inches from mine. His grey eyes bore into mine. His figure was backlit from the sun rays shining into the halls. He looked like an angel, like Lucifer before he'd fallen. His minty breath felt cool against my skin. I wanted to taste him again.
I clutched my books closer to my chest. Now wasn't the time for such thoughts.
"You're an ass." I pushed past him, purposely bumping into him. If I'd stayed standing there any longer, I might've felt impulsive enough to kiss him right then and there.
"Whatever I want, I get. It's as simple as that," I heard him say as he trailed after me. "And I'll do whatever I need to do to make sure that that happens."
When he caught up, I turned to face him. "Look, do you want to work on the paper or not? Because Merlin knows I've got better things to do than to stand around listening to you spout rubbish all day."
He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. "What's gotten into you lately, Y/N?" He teased. "We don't see each other for a few days and this is the welcome back I get? Don't you want to know where I've been?"
As annoyed as I was, I kept walking with my eyes locked straight ahead. I was going to make it to the library with or without him. This was the last thing I needed on top of all my assignments.
"Damn. I really liked you better when you were pinned against the wall just begging for me to-"
Now I was angry.
"Fuck off, Malfoy. I'm not in the mood for this," I fumed. I was on the verge of tears, not because I was hurt or upset, but because I was so stressed from everything that'd been going on. I wished that he'd wipe that stupid smirk off his face. He knew he'd struck a nerve in me, but he continued on anyway.
"Well, weren't you?"
"What?"
"Weren't you just begging for me to fuck you?"
I looked around with frenzied eyes, hoping to Merlin that no one had heard him. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I snapped. "There are people arou-"
Suddenly, I was shoved through a doorway. With a firm grip on me, Draco pushed me into an empty classroom, causing me to nearly fall over if I hadn't caught my balance holding onto a desk. I quickly scouted the room in an effort to discern my whereabouts. We were in the Potions classroom and it was empty.
Still facing the door with his wand in hand, Draco whispered, "Colloportus."
The locking spell.
He turned from the door and approached me with a hungry expression spread across his face. I was leaning against a desk with my book bag still slung on one shoulder. It was cold and dark in the classroom but there was a heat that radiated between us. He grabbed my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze.
"Now are you going to behave or not?"
Unable to speak, I nodded. The rage that had enshrouded me earlier melted away in an instant. All I could think about now was his firm grasp on me. Though I felt like screaming at him earlier, I softened beneath his touch.
"Good girl," he praised. "Now drop your bag and get up on the desk."
