AS THE DOOR SLAMMED behind the four of them, they were met with a large room that had little light. the room housed dozens of statues, that were just as tall, if not taller than harlow. the statues were lined up in four separate rows, two rows of statues faced the other two rows. the four of them moved slowly in the direction of the statues.

"i don't like this. i don't like this at all." said hermione.

"where are we?" asked harry, "a graveyard?"

"well if it is it's a peculiar looking graveyard." harlow remarked, looking around at the statues.

"this is no graveyard," ron said, walking up to in between the rows of statues. "it's a chessboard."

as if it was on cue, light flooded into the chamber and onto the chess board. the light of revealed all sorts of marvelous details, such as the marble checkered floor, and the precise work that went into carving the statues. harlow, harry, and hermione walked next to ron, as they were taking note of the pure beauty of the room harry spotted the exit.

"there's the door!" harry pointed out, and began to walk towards the direction of the door, the other three trailing behind him. just as they were about to pass the first row of statues, the statues drew their swords, preventing the four from going any further. the four of the stepped back, as they did so the statues retracted their swords.

"now what do we do?" hermione asked.

harlow shrugged, "go around them."

harry's eyes were fixated on the blades of the statues. "i wouldn't want to take my chances with that." harry gulped.

"its obvious isn't it? we've got to play our way across the room. all right, harry, you take the empty bishop's square. hermione you'll be the queen-side castle. harlow you can-" ron thought about it for a moment before realizing the confused look on harlow's face "do you have any idea how to play chess?"

"sort of" she said, "i'm quite rubbish though."

"nevermind you can just help harry, as for me, i'll be a knight."

harlow, hermione, and harry went to their places, harlow teamed up with harry, hermione on the opposite end of the chess board, while ron made his way over to the knight statue and climbed up on it's back.

"what happens now?" questioned hermione.

"well, white moves first, and then we play." ron explained, as he did so a white pawn moved up two places.
