I woke up that morning shivering from the cold I walked out the snow crunching beneath my paws I could see my breath as dew filled the air it was still early maybe 6 ish I looked around and began to sniff the air for food but dew-covered any scent near. I flattened my ears and puffed out my fur as I walked through the forest the sun bright in the blue cloudless sky. my paws left prints in the snow to show that I had been there. a flicker of movement flashed in front of me as a squirrel was sitting next to a tree eating a nut.

I crouched down and kept forward. I had no skill in hunting so the creature was alerted by me and ran up the tree I ran over the tree and tried running up to get it but I didn't know how to climb either so I had to go without breakfast and I continued walking looking for other food but I'm sure my growling stomach chased them all away.

I managed to catch a shrew and felt better after eating I licked my jaws and laid down my tail wagging a bit, something felt off as if I was being watched but I didn't pay much attention to it. I got up and stretched shaking out my pelt and looking around. suddenly a black and white speckled fox appeared in front of me making me jump back a bit.

"well hello there haven't seen you around here before," he said his yellow eyes almost hypnotizing. I was speechless I didn't know what to say I just stared at him. he tilted his head. "well, what's your name stranger." he said taking a step forward sniffing my pelt.

"well i....i...umm." I couldn't form the words as I backed away from him. "I'm Akela." I finally managed to answer he seemed happier his tail began to wag.

"Nice to meet you I'm Atlas," he said and started to walk off. I felt like he wanted me to follow so I did and he didn't seem to correct me either. he led me to a cave were a slightly older fox walked out growling
